How to cancel O2

To cancel O2 (UK), give 30 days' notice by signing in to My O2 or calling 202 free from an O2 mobile — or text PAC to 65075 to switch keeping your number, STAC to 75075 to leave without it. SIM-only plans in contract pay an early termination charge; O2 Refresh device plans are settled separately — in full if you leave within their first 24 months.

What you owe on the way out depends on which kind of O2 contract you hold. On O2 Refresh, the airtime and the handset are split: O2 documents no early termination charge on the airtime plan. The device plan is separate — end your airtime within its first 24 months and O2 says the outstanding device balance must be paid in full; after 24 months the plans unlink, and you can keep paying instalments or settle in full. On SIM-only and standard plans, O2's documented early termination charge is your monthly tariff cost multiplied by the months remaining in your minimum period, minus 4%. Before deciding, get O2's own figure: text INFO to 85075 or check in My O2. O2 also says any overdue charges must be cleared before you leave. If the exit is prompted by a price rise your contract did not set out in pounds and pence, UK rules may give you a 30-day penalty-free exit instead — see /guides/ofcom-broadband-mobile-contract-cancellation.

Step-by-step cancellation

These steps only appear when the flow was verified against an official provider or platform source.

If you're switching networks (PAC or STAC by text or My O2)

  1. 1

Text INFO to 85075 for O2's estimate of any early termination charges or credit on your account.

  2. 2

Text PAC to 65075 to keep your number, or STAC to 75075 to leave without it — O2 also issues codes through My O2.

  3. 3

Give the code to your new provider; it stays valid for 30 days from issue.

  4. 4

The new provider's switch completes the cancellation — no separate call to O2 is needed.

  5. 5

Check the final bill 14 days after disconnection; if it's in credit, O2 refunds you automatically within 30 days.

  • O2 documents that you can still request a PAC up to 30 days after leaving, which matters if you cancelled first and only later decided to rescue the number.

If you just want to cancel with notice (no new provider)

  1. 1

Sign in to My O2 and give your 30 days' notice there — O2 documents this as a route for giving notice.

  2. 2

Or call 202 free from your O2 mobile (4445 from Pay As You Go phones).

  3. 3

Clear any overdue charges on the account, and pay off any Refresh device plan balance.

  4. 4

Service ends when the 30-day notice period does; the final bill follows 14 days after disconnection.

  • A plain cancellation surrenders the number. If there's any chance you'll want it, take a PAC instead — you have up to 30 days after leaving to ask for one.

Common problems

Only official-source troubleshooting notes are included here.

I cancelled my O2 airtime but I'm still being charged monthly.

Check whether the charge is the O2 Refresh device plan — it's a separate agreement, and once you're past its first 24 months O2 documents that it unlinks from the airtime and instalments simply continue until the handset balance is cleared. My O2 shows the split.

I don't know whether leaving now will cost me anything.

Text INFO to 85075 from your O2 phone — O2 replies with an estimate of any early termination charges or credit — or check the same figures in My O2. On SIM-only, the documented formula is remaining months times monthly tariff, minus 4%.

My final bill was in credit — how do I get the money?

You shouldn't need to do anything: O2 documents an automatic refund within 30 days of the final bill, paid to the account or card you usually pay from. That's a reason to leave your payment method open rather than cancelling it the day you leave.

What happens after you cancel?

Post-cancellation details like access, downgrade behavior, and refund caveats are shown only when the provider documents them.

  • Your service runs to the end of the 30-day notice period, or until the new provider completes a PAC/STAC switch.
  • The final bill arrives 14 days after disconnection, covering line rental to the disconnection date, any early termination charges, and outstanding device plan amounts.
  • Any credit balance comes back automatically within 30 days to your usual payment account or card.
  • You can still request a PAC for the old number up to 30 days after leaving.

Refund notes

  • O2 documents an automatic refund path: if your final bill is in credit, O2 refunds you within the next 30 days to the account or card you usually pay your bill from. There is no documented mid-cycle refund for time left on a notice period — the 30 days of notice is chargeable service.

FAQ

How do I cancel my O2 contract?

Give 30 days' notice by signing in to My O2 or by calling 202 free from your O2 mobile (4445 on Pay As You Go). If you're moving networks, skip the notice and text PAC to 65075 (keep your number) or STAC to 75075 (don't) — handing the code to your new provider cancels O2 for you.

Does cancelling O2 Refresh cost anything?

O2 documents no early termination charge on the Refresh airtime plan — but the device plan is separate. End the airtime within its first 24 months and any outstanding device balance must be paid in full; after 24 months the plans unlink, so you can keep paying instalments or clear it. Text INFO to 85075 or check My O2 for your exact figures.

What is O2's early termination charge on SIM-only plans?

O2 documents it as your monthly tariff cost multiplied by the number of months remaining in your minimum period, minus 4%. You can get an estimate of any charges or credit through My O2 or by texting INFO to 85075 before you commit.

When do I get my final O2 bill and any refund?

The final bill arrives 14 days after you're disconnected and includes line rental up to the disconnection date, any early termination charges and outstanding device plan amounts. If it ends up in credit, O2 says it refunds you automatically within the next 30 days to the account or card you normally pay from.

Can I keep my O2 number after I've already cancelled?

For a short while, yes. O2 documents that you have up to 30 days from when you leave to request a PAC, and the code itself is then valid for 30 days from issue. Give it to your new provider and the number ports over; after that window the number is gone.
