How to cancel Merlin Annual Pass

Merlin Monthly Membership carries a 12-month minimum term and no cancel button: once it is complete, cancel through the membership portal or Merlin's online cancellation form. A request received five or more days before your next payment ends it the day before that payment; later requests cost one more month. A paid-upfront Merlin Annual Pass simply expires after 12 months.

The day before your next payment was due, if the request lands in time. Merlin's Monthly Membership terms say that where it receives your request "five or more days before your next payment is due", the membership ends the day before that payment, and where the request arrives "less than five days before your next payment is due", the monthly fee is still payable and the membership ends the day before the following payment.

Merlin's Monthly Membership terms put the lock in capitals: "THE MINIMUM TERM OF YOUR MEMBERSHIP IS 12 MONTHS FROM THE DATE ON WHICH WE ACCEPT YOUR ORDER (the 'Minimum Term'). YOUR MEMBERSHIP MAY NOT BE CANCELLED OR TERMINATED BY YOU DURING THE MINIMUM TERM EXCEPT AS SET OUT IN THE 'RIGHT TO CANCEL' SECTION BELOW. AFTER THE MINIMUM TERM, YOUR MEMBERSHIP RENEWS EACH MONTH UNTIL YOU CANCEL IT". The same 12-month clause appears in the Silver, Gold and Platinum Monthly Membership terms. Merlin's help centre puts it plainly too: outside the cooling-off period and before 12 months are up, it states that the Membership cannot be cancelled, though it invites members cancelling for medical reasons to send a signed letter from a GP or another medical professional. There is also a joining fee on top of the monthly fee, and Merlin's terms say the monthly fee will not change during the Minimum Term but that if it raises the price afterwards you may cancel by contacting it within 30 days of the notice. The paid-upfront Merlin Annual Pass is a different product with no minimum term at all: Merlin says it "expires exactly 12 months after purchase" and you then have four weeks to renew at a discounted price.

Step-by-step cancellation

These steps only appear when the flow was verified against an official provider or platform source.

If you have a Merlin Monthly Membership and the 12-month minimum term is complete

  1. 1

Confirm you have passed 12 months from the date Merlin accepted the order.

  2. 2

To end every pass on the order, open the membership portal Merlin links from www.merlinannualpass.co.uk/membershippaymentportal and sign in with your nine-digit order number and the email address on the account.

  3. 3

To end only one or two passes on a multi-pass order, use Merlin's online cancellation form instead — its help centre routes that case to the form rather than the portal.

  4. 4

Submit the request five or more days before your next payment date so the membership ends the day before that payment.

  5. 5

Save the confirmation and watch the next statement.

  • Merlin's terms say a request received less than five days before the next payment means that month's fee is still payable, with the membership ending the day before the payment after that.
  • Merlin bills the membership to a payment card rather than by Direct Debit — its terms refer throughout to "your payment card" and to updating it in the payment portal. Recurring card billing is explained at /answers/what-is-continuous-payment-authority.

If you are inside the 14-day cooling-off period

  1. 1

Check the date: the 14 days run from when you entered into the contract, which Merlin's terms tie to the purchase.

  2. 2

Complete and submit Merlin's online cancellation form during the 14-day period, or use the model cancellation form printed at the end of its terms.

  3. 3

Expect a deduction if you have already visited. Merlin's terms say that if you used the Membership during the 14 days you must pay an amount proportionate to the services supplied, and that Merlin is entitled to deduct the joining fee from the refund.

  4. 4

Merlin's help centre says a Pass bought less than 14 days ago and not yet used can be cancelled with a full refund.

  • The equivalent Annual Pass rule differs slightly: Merlin says that if you used the Pass in the 14 days it will "subtract the cost of a day ticket for any attractions you visited and refund the rest".
  • Background on statutory UK cancellation rights is at /guides/uk-subscription-cancellation-rights.

If you need to leave a Monthly Membership early on medical grounds

  1. 1

Accept the starting point: Merlin's help centre states that outside the cooling-off period and before the 12 months are complete, the Membership cannot be cancelled.

  2. 2

Ask anyway if there are medical reasons. Merlin says to send a signed letter from your GP or another medical professional confirming this so it can look into it.

  3. 3

Submit that through Merlin's online cancellation form, or call its call centre on 01372 751411 — Merlin's Monthly Membership terms give the hours as Monday to Friday, 9am to 4pm.

  4. 4

Ask for written confirmation of the decision and the end date before you assume anything has changed.

  5. 5

Keep paying until Merlin confirms — an unpaid month has its own consequences.

  • Merlin's help centre says it cannot freeze Monthly Memberships, so a pause is not an alternative here.

If you bought a paid-upfront Merlin Annual Pass

  1. 1

Check when you bought it. Merlin says a Pass bought less than 14 days ago and unused can be cancelled for a full refund via its online cancellation form.

  2. 2

If you used it in that window, Merlin says it subtracts the cost of a day ticket for any attractions you visited and refunds the rest.

  3. 3

If you bought it more than 14 days ago, Merlin states it is unable to cancel or refund the Pass.

  4. 4

There is nothing recurring to stop: Merlin says the Annual Pass "expires exactly 12 months after purchase", after which you have four weeks to renew at a discounted price.

  5. 5

If you simply do not want to continue, let it lapse and ignore the renewal offer.

  • Merlin's cancellation article for the Annual Pass points members who cannot cancel towards a Freeze on the Pass in certain circumstances.

Source: support.merlinannualpass.co.uk — the provider's own documentation for these steps.

If Merlin has told you the monthly fee is going up

  1. 1

Read the notice email — Merlin's terms say a price rise is notified to the email address you provided.

  2. 2

Decide within 30 days. The terms say that if you do not wish to continue at the new monthly fee, you may cancel by contacting Merlin within 30 days of receiving the notice.

  3. 3

Use the same online cancellation route as an ordinary cancellation.

  4. 4

Reference the price-increase notice in your request, and keep the confirmation.

  • Merlin's terms also state the monthly membership fee will not change during the 12-month Minimum Term.

Expect a retention offer

  • Merlin's own article on cancelling an Annual Pass ends by offering a pause rather than an exit: after stating that passes bought more than 14 days ago cannot be cancelled or refunded, it offers a Freeze on the Pass in certain circumstances and links to its freeze article. Its separate help article confirms that Monthly Memberships cannot be frozen.

Common problems

Only official-source troubleshooting notes are included here.

I want to cancel but I am only a few months in.

Merlin's terms do not allow it. Outside the 14-day cooling-off period and before the 12-month Minimum Term is complete, its help centre states that the Membership cannot be cancelled. The one route it names is medical: send a signed letter from a GP or another medical professional so Merlin can look into it.

The membership portal will not let me cancel everything.

Check what you are trying to cancel. Merlin's help centre sends you to the portal when you want to cancel all passes on the order, and to its online cancellation form when you only want to cancel one or two passes on a multi-pass order. The portal asks for your nine-digit order number and the email address on the account.

I cancelled and another payment came out anyway.

Compare the date you submitted the request with your payment date. Merlin's terms treat a request arriving less than five days before the next payment as too late: that fee is payable and the membership ends the day before the payment after it. If you believe your request landed earlier, reply on the same ticket with the timestamp, or call Merlin on 01372 751411.

What happens after you cancel?

Post-cancellation details like access, downgrade behavior, and refund caveats are shown only when the provider documents them.

  • A Monthly Membership cancelled in time ends the day before your next payment was due, so the passes stay usable for the month you have already paid for.
  • If the request arrived inside the five-day window, one further monthly fee is taken and the membership ends the day before the payment after that.
  • The recurring card charge stops from that point — check the next statement to confirm it did.
  • A paid-upfront Annual Pass is unaffected by any of this: Merlin says it expires exactly 12 months after purchase, with a four-week window afterwards to renew at a discounted price.
  • Sign back into the membership payment portal and confirm no further payment date is listed before you consider it done.

Refund notes

  • Outside the 14-day window there is no documented refund. Merlin's help centre states of the Annual Pass that Passes purchased over 14 days ago cannot be cancelled or refunded, and for a Monthly Membership that outside the cooling-off period and before 12 months it cannot be cancelled at all.
  • Inside the 14 days, an unused Pass gets a full refund. A used Monthly Membership is refunded less an amount proportionate to the services supplied, and Merlin's terms say it is entitled to deduct the joining fee to cover its costs for services provided before cancellation.
  • For a used Annual Pass inside the 14 days, Merlin says it subtracts the cost of a day ticket for each attraction visited and refunds the remainder.
  • After the minimum term, cancelling is a notice mechanism rather than a refund: get the request in five or more days ahead and the next payment is simply not taken.

FAQ

How do I cancel my Merlin Annual Pass or Merlin Monthly Membership?

It depends which one you hold. Merlin says a paid-upfront Annual Pass can only be cancelled within 14 days of purchase, using its online cancellation form, and simply expires 12 months after purchase otherwise. A Monthly Membership can be cancelled once the 12-month minimum term is complete: Merlin's help centre sends whole-order cancellations to the membership portal and part-order cancellations to its online cancellation form.

How long is the Merlin Monthly Membership minimum term?

Twelve months. Merlin's Monthly Membership terms state in capitals that the Minimum Term is 12 months from the date it accepts your order and that the membership "MAY NOT BE CANCELLED OR TERMINATED BY YOU DURING THE MINIMUM TERM EXCEPT AS SET OUT IN THE 'RIGHT TO CANCEL' SECTION". After it, Merlin says the membership continues on a rolling monthly contract that you can cancel at any time.

How much notice does Merlin need to cancel a Monthly Membership?

Five days before your next payment date. Merlin's terms say a request received five or more days before the next payment ends the membership the day before that payment, and give a worked example: request on 10 May with payment due 7 June ends the membership on 6 June. A request less than five days ahead means the fee is still payable and the membership ends the day before the following payment.

Can I get a refund on a Merlin Annual Pass?

Only inside 14 days. Merlin's help centre says a Pass bought less than 14 days ago and not used can be cancelled with a full refund, and that if you have used it, it will subtract the cost of a day ticket for any attractions you visited and refund the rest. For Passes bought more than 14 days ago it states that they cannot be cancelled or refunded.

Can I freeze my Merlin Monthly Membership instead of cancelling it?

No. Merlin's help centre answers this directly: it is not able to freeze Monthly Memberships. A freeze is something Merlin offers for Annual Passes in certain circumstances, and its Annual Pass cancellation article points members who cannot cancel to that option instead.

What happens if I miss a Merlin Monthly Membership payment?

Merlin says a missed payment deactivates your Pass until you pay through its payment portal. After two missed payments, its team has to unlock the portal for you. If the membership is still unpaid after three months, Merlin says the account is permanently deactivated and you would need to take out a new Pass in full — so a missed payment is not a way to end the contract.
