How to cancel World of Warcraft

World of Warcraft subscriptions cancel online at Battle.net: sign in to Games & Subscriptions, click Manage beside the WoW account, then Cancel Subscription. The account stays playable until the game time already paid for expires. Blizzard's "Forgot to Cancel" article says subscriptions are generally non-refundable, though a refund review can be requested. Prepaid game time, game cards and WoW Tokens never recur.

Can you cancel online?
yes
Where to start
The Battle.net website — Account Settings > Games & Subscriptions (account.blizzard.com/games), signed in with the Battle.net account that pays for the subscription. There is no cancel control inside the game or the Battle.net desktop launcher's settings.
Apple or Google billed?
Not commonly documented
Keeps access until
Until the game time you have already paid for runs out — the WoW account stays playable and Active until then, and goes inactive once that game time expires.
Contract / fees
No fixed-term contract and no early-termination fee. Blizzard documents that subscriptions "automatically recur at your chosen rate (monthly, every three months, every six months or every twelve months)" until paused or canceled, and that you can pause or cancel at any time. Longer plans are paid up front, so cancelling stops the next renewal rather than refunding the current term. Prepaid digital game time, retail prepaid game cards and WoW Tokens are one-off and do not recur. Battle.net Balance cannot be used to set up a recurring subscription — it can only buy game time.

Step-by-step cancellation

These steps only appear when the flow was verified against an official provider or platform source.

Cancel the recurring subscription (web)

  1. 1

Log in to your Games & Subscriptions page at account.blizzard.com/games

  2. 2

Click Manage next to the WoW account you want to cancel the subscription on

  3. 3

Click Cancel Subscription and follow the prompts

  4. 4

If the Cancel Subscription option is not present, that account either had no subscription or it was already cancelled

  5. 5

The WoW account stays playable until the current game time expires; you can set up a new subscription at any time

Pause the next payment instead of cancelling

  1. 1

Log in to your Games & Subscriptions page at account.blizzard.com/games

  2. 2

Click Manage next to the WoW account you want to pause

  3. 3

Click Pause Next Payment and choose a length between one and six months

  4. 4

Game time already active is not paused — the account stays playable and Active until that game time expires, then the subscription shows as Paused

  5. 5

Blizzard states that inactive WoW accounts with a paused subscription are subject to Starter Edition limitations

  6. 6

You are not billed until the pause expires or you resume; you can resume or fully cancel at any time, but you cannot extend the pause

  7. 7

To resume, return to Manage on the same page and click Resume Subscription

Confirm the cancellation and check what you were charged

  1. 1

Open your Transaction History page at account.blizzard.com/transactions — Blizzard's "Managing a World of Warcraft Subscription" article directs you there to view your subscription history and order status

  2. 2

Re-check Games & Subscriptions. Per Blizzard's pause article (support.blizzard.com/article/000336364), a WoW account with an Active status does not indicate the presence of an active subscription — the account may be Active purely due to active game time

  3. 3

If a first-time card charge looks duplicated, it is an authorization hold. Blizzard states you pay only once, the hold is automatically refunded within 2-3 business days, and only your financial institution can remove it

Expect a retention offer

  • The official cancellation article steers you toward pausing instead: "you may also want to pause your subscription instead of cancelling it"
  • Pausing is framed around perks you would otherwise lose — monthly Trader's Tender, plus cosmetic grants that keep refreshing on longer subscription bundles
  • Subscription management lives only on the Battle.net website, not in the game client or launcher settings, so players hunting in-game find no cancel option
  • Blizzard's pause article notes that "a WoW account with an Active status does not indicate the presence of the active subscription", so the account page can read Active whether or not billing is still running

Common problems

Only official-source troubleshooting notes are included here.

What happens after you cancel?

Post-cancellation details like access, downgrade behavior, and refund caveats are shown only when the provider documents them.

  • The WoW account remains playable until the current game time expires — nothing is cut off at the moment you cancel
  • Once that game time runs out the account goes inactive
  • No further subscription payments are taken, and you can set up a new subscription at any time
  • Time already paid for is not refunded, since subscriptions are treated as generally non-refundable
  • Any prepaid digital game time, game card or WoW Token time on the account is unaffected — it was never recurring in the first place

Refund notes

  • Blizzard's "Forgot to Cancel World of Warcraft Subscription" article (us.support.blizzard.com/en/help/article/000012945) states: "World of Warcraft subscriptions are generally non-refundable, but you can use our refund review feature to see if an exception is possible." There is no documented refund for unused time on a cancelled subscription — the account simply stays playable until the game time expires.

FAQ

Does canceling my World of Warcraft subscription cut off my access straight away?

No. Blizzard's cancellation article states the WoW account remains playable until the current game time expires. Cancelling stops the next renewal, so you keep playing the time already paid for; once that game time runs out the account goes inactive.

Where is the Cancel Subscription button for World of Warcraft?

It is on the web, not in the game or launcher settings. Log in to the Games & Subscriptions page at account.blizzard.com/games, click Manage next to the WoW account you want, then click Cancel Subscription. If that option is missing, that account either has no subscription or it was already cancelled.

Can I pause my World of Warcraft subscription instead of cancelling it?

Yes. Blizzard documents a Pause Next Payment option on the same Games & Subscriptions page, for a minimum of one month and a maximum of six. Pausing does not freeze game time already on the account, and you can resume or fully cancel at any point during the pause. Blizzard notes that inactive WoW accounts with a paused subscription are subject to Starter Edition limitations.

Will Blizzard refund a World of Warcraft subscription charge I forgot to cancel?

Blizzard's "Forgot to Cancel World of Warcraft Subscription" article (us.support.blizzard.com/en/help/article/000012945) states that World of Warcraft subscriptions are generally non-refundable, but that you can use its refund review feature to see if an exception is possible. There is no documented automatic refund for unused time — the account simply stays playable until the game time runs out.

Do WoW game time cards or WoW Tokens renew automatically?

No. Blizzard documents that prepaid game cards bought in stores work like digital game time and that payment is not recurring, and a WoW Token consumed for game time adds 30 days. Only the recurring subscription set up on the Battle.net account bills again on its own.
