How to cancel MUBI

MUBI subscriptions bought on its website end at Settings → Subscription on mubi.com, where you can cancel or pause for one or three months. Anyone billed through Apple, Google Play, Roku or Prime Video Channels must cancel there instead. MUBI's terms require cancelling one calendar day before renewal; access runs to the end of the paid period.

Where to start
If you signed up on MUBI's website, start at mubi.com/subscription (Settings → Subscription). If you signed up in an app or on a TV platform, start in whichever store bills you — Apple App Store, Google Play, Roku, or Prime Video Channels — because MUBI cannot cancel those.

Step-by-step cancellation

These steps only appear when the flow was verified against an official provider or platform source.

Subscribed on mubi.com (web / card or PayPal)

  1. 1

Sign in at mubi.com in a browser.

  2. 2

Open Settings and choose Subscription, or go straight to mubi.com/subscription.

  3. 3

Choose the cancel option in your subscription settings and confirm.

  4. 4

Do this at least 1 calendar day before your renewal date — MUBI's terms say a later cancellation will not stop the next charge.

  5. 5

Optional: the same screen offers Pause Membership for one or three months if you want a break rather than an ending. Pausing defers billing, it does not end it.

  6. 6

Check that your subscription settings now show the subscription as cancelled, and keep the confirmation.

Billed by Apple (App Store, iOS or Apple TV)

  1. 1

MUBI's FAQ states that App Store subscribers must cancel through their App Store settings — MUBI cannot cancel an Apple-billed subscription for you.

  2. 2

On iPhone or iPad, open Settings, tap your name, then tap Subscriptions.

  3. 3

Select MUBI, then choose Cancel Subscription and confirm.

  4. 4

Apple's guidance is to cancel at least 24 hours before the renewal date to avoid the next charge.

  5. 5

Confirm MUBI now shows an expiry date rather than a renewal date in the Subscriptions list.

Billed by Google Play (Android)

  1. 1

MUBI's FAQ states that Google Play subscribers must cancel or change the subscription through their Google Play settings.

  2. 2

Open the Google Play Store app and tap your profile icon.

  3. 3

Tap Payments & subscriptions, then Subscriptions.

  4. 4

Select MUBI, tap Cancel subscription and follow the prompts.

  5. 5

Confirm the entry now shows an end date instead of a renewal date.

Billed by Roku

  1. 1

MUBI's FAQ states that Roku subscribers must cancel through their Roku account settings and links to Roku's own guide.

  2. 2

On the Roku home screen, highlight the MUBI channel and press the star (*) button on the remote, or sign in to your Roku account on the web.

  3. 3

    Choose Manage subscription.

  4. 4

    Select Cancel subscription and confirm.

  5. 5

Check that Roku shows the subscription ending on your current paid-through date.

Billed by Amazon (Prime Video Channels)

  1. 1

MUBI's Terms of Service direct third-party-billed subscribers, including FireTV, to that platform's cancellation mechanism.

  2. 2

Sign in to Prime Video and open Account & Settings, then choose Subscriptions from the top menu.

  3. 3

Find the MUBI add-on subscription in the list.

  4. 4

Select Unsubscribe (it may read 'withdraw') and confirm.

  5. 5

Amazon shows the subscription end date; access continues until that date and you can reverse the cancellation before it.

Expect a retention offer

  • Subscription settings present a 'Pause Membership' option for one or three months alongside cancellation, which defers billing rather than ending it — the pause only begins at the end of the current renewal period and the subscription resumes and charges again when the pause expires unless you cancel during it.
  • A 'Change Membership' plan-switch option sits in the same settings area as an alternative to leaving; plan changes take effect only at the end of the current renewal period.
  • Split billing is the main friction rather than a hard sell: cancelling inside MUBI's own settings has no effect on Apple, Google Play, Roku or Amazon-billed subscriptions, and MUBI states it cannot cancel those for you.

Common problems

Only official-source troubleshooting notes are included here.

What happens after you cancel?

Post-cancellation details like access, downgrade behavior, and refund caveats are shown only when the provider documents them.

  • Renewal stops and you keep watching through the end of the period you have already paid for.
  • No refund or credit is issued for the unused remainder of the current month or year.
  • If Apple, Google Play, Roku or Amazon bills your subscription, cancelling in MUBI's own settings will not stop those charges — you must cancel in that store.
  • Cancelling one calendar day or less before the renewal date can still result in the next period being charged, per MUBI's terms.
  • Pausing is not cancelling: a paused membership resumes and charges again at the end of the one- or three-month pause unless you cancel during it.

Refund notes

  • MUBI's help centre states subscriptions are non-refundable, and its Terms of Service say payments are nonrefundable with no refunds or credits for partially used periods, except any MUBI chooses to grant case by case or that applicable law requires. MUBI directs anyone who believes a charge was made in error to support@mubi.com. Cancelling does not trigger a refund of the current period — it stops the next one.

FAQ

Can I cancel MUBI directly on the MUBI website?

Yes, if that is where you subscribed. MUBI's FAQ says you can cancel at any time in your subscription settings, reached via Settings → Subscription or by going straight to mubi.com/subscription.

Why didn't cancelling inside my MUBI account stop the charges?

Because something else is billing you. MUBI's Terms of Service state that if you subscribed through a third-party platform such as Apple, Google, FireTV or Roku, you have to cancel through that platform's own cancellation mechanism — MUBI's settings will not stop those charges.

Does MUBI refund the rest of the month or year when I cancel?

No. MUBI's help centre states subscriptions are non-refundable, and its terms say there are no refunds or credits for partially used periods, apart from refunds MUBI chooses to grant case by case or that local law requires. If you believe a charge was made in error, MUBI points you to support@mubi.com.

Can I pause my MUBI membership instead of cancelling it?

Yes. MUBI documents a Pause Membership option in subscription settings for one or three months. The pause only starts at the end of your existing renewal period, you can unpause any time, and when the pause ends the subscription resumes and you are charged unless you cancel during it.

How close to the renewal date can I cancel MUBI?

MUBI's Terms of Service say you must cancel 1 calendar day before it renews to avoid being billed for the next period. If Apple bills your subscription, Apple's own rule is to cancel at least 24 hours before the renewal date.
