How to cancel Runway

Runway cancels at app.runwayml.com/settings/billing: click Cancel plan, give feedback, select Continue to cancel plan, then click Confirm cancellation in Stripe. That final Stripe step is what actually cancels it. You keep paid features until your renewal date. App Store and Google Play purchases must be cancelled in those stores instead.

Menus and labels can change. If the steps below don’t match what you see, use the official help link on this page.

Step-by-step cancellation

These steps only appear when the flow was verified against an official provider or platform source.

If you subscribed on runwayml.com

  1. 1

Go to your billing page (https://app.runwayml.com/settings/billing).

  2. 2

    Click Cancel plan.

  3. 3

Provide any feedback, then proceed by selecting Continue to cancel plan.

  4. 4

    Click Confirm cancellation in Stripe.

  5. 5

Check the billing page afterwards: an inactive Cancel plan button means the cancellation is already scheduled, with the date shown in the Expires on... field.

  6. 6

Runway adds that if you only see Update subscription and Don't cancel subscription, your cancellation is already confirmed and the date is at the top of the Stripe confirmation page.

  • Runway says you can cancel immediately after subscribing and still use the plan features until the end of the billing cycle.
  • Enterprise plans are different: Runway says subscription changes there are managed through your Account Manager.
  • Workspace owners should check both views - Runway says a workspace can have its own subscription that bills independently of your personal plan, and you follow the same cancellation steps from the workspace billing view.

If you subscribed in the Runway iOS app

  1. 1

Open the Settings app on your iPhone or iPad.

  2. 2

Tap your name at the top of the screen.

  3. 3

    Tap Subscriptions.

  4. 4

    Tap Runway.

  5. 5

    Tap Cancel Subscription.

  6. 6

Runway states your subscription stays active until the end of the current billing period and will not renew after that, and that once the plan ends you will still have access to any media you generated in the app.

  • These steps are Runway's own, published in its App Store and Google Play cancellation article.
  • If Runway isn't in your subscriptions list, Runway suggests you may be signed in with a different Apple ID than the one used to buy it, and to check each account you use.

If you subscribed in the Runway Android app

  1. 1

Open the Google Play Store app.

  2. 2

Tap your profile icon in the top right.

  3. 3

Tap Payments & subscriptions, then Subscriptions.

  4. 4

    Tap Runway.

  5. 5

    Tap Cancel subscription.

  6. 6

Runway states the subscription stays active until the end of the current billing period and will not renew, and that you keep access to media you generated in the app.

  • These steps are Runway's own, published in its App Store and Google Play cancellation article.
  • If Runway isn't listed, Runway suggests checking whether you are signed in with a different Google account than the one used to purchase.

Expect a retention offer

  • Runway's flow puts a feedback step before the cancellation itself - "Provide any feedback, then proceed by selecting Continue to cancel plan" - and Runway identifies stopping there as the most common reason people are charged after they believe they have cancelled: "The subscription isn't cancelled until step 3 is complete and Stripe returns the cancellation confirmation."

Common problems

Only official-source troubleshooting notes are included here.

You clicked Cancel plan but were billed anyway.

Go back to app.runwayml.com/settings/billing and check whether Cancel plan is greyed out with an Expires on... date. Runway says the cancellation only completes when Stripe returns the confirmation. If the page shows only Update subscription and Don't cancel subscription, the cancellation is already confirmed.

You keep getting failed renewal emails but cannot cancel.

Runway says this likely means your renewal date recently passed and the subscription wasn't cancelled before then, and asks you to contact Support for help with the cancellation.

You are being billed twice, or from an email address you don't recognise.

Runway points to Apple's Hide My Email: if you subscribed on mobile, Apple may have created a separate Runway account under a masked address with its own subscription. Check the email tied to the unexpected charge, sign in with it, and cancel there. You can manage Hide My Email addresses in your Apple ID settings.

Your personal plan is cancelled but a workspace is still charging you.

Runway says a workspace you own may have its own subscription that bills independently. Open your billing page, review both personal and workspace billing details, switch into the workspace, and follow the same cancellation steps from the workspace billing view. Adding Admin or Editor members also creates an additional charge per member.

What happens after you cancel?

Post-cancellation details like access, downgrade behavior, and refund caveats are shown only when the provider documents them.

  • You retain the subscription and paid features until the end of the billing cycle, and it does not renew.
  • Runway says your assets and projects remain on your account unless you delete your account entirely.
  • Purchased credits stay on the account until spent, but Runway notes your current plan level - not the plan you held when you bought them - determines feature availability, so generations made on the Basic or Free tier carry watermarks.
  • Monthly plan credits do not survive the cycle. Runway says plan credits reset within 24 hours of your billing date and unused credits are forfeited at the end of each cycle - except on the Max plan, where up to one month of unused credits rolls over. Runway adds that once you have cancelled, your monthly credit balance resets to 0.
  • On the Free plan you cannot create new projects if you already have more than three.

Refund notes

  • Runway says it may, at its discretion, provide a refund if you purchased or renewed within the last 30 days and the subscription is unused or close to unused, if you bought credits within the past 30 days and have not used them, or if you signed up for a different plan than intended - for example annual instead of monthly - in which case you can switch and be refunded the difference.
  • Runway states that refunding a subscription cancels the active plan as part of the same action, and that if a refund is granted the previous plan's feature access and any unused plan credits are immediately lost as the account is downgraded to free.
  • Requests go through the help icon in the top-right corner of the Runway dashboard, where Runway says an AI Assistant checks eligibility or escalates to support. You can also reply to any billing receipt. Include your account email, the charge amount, and the date.
  • For App Store or Google Play purchases, Runway directs refund requests to Apple and Google, saying it cannot initiate those itself.
  • Runway says that if a suspension appeal is denied, the plan is cancelled with no refund and you lose access to your account and assets.

FAQ

Why was I charged after cancelling my Runway plan?

Runway names an incomplete flow as the most common cause. Its cancellation has a feedback step and then the cancellation itself, and Runway says "the subscription isn't cancelled until step 3 is complete and Stripe returns the cancellation confirmation". If you stopped before that Stripe confirmation, the subscription stayed active and renewed. Other causes Runway lists are a deleted account, a duplicate account created by Apple's Hide My Email, or a separate workspace subscription.

Does deleting my Runway account cancel my Runway subscription?

No. Runway states that your Stripe subscription exists independently of your Runway account, so if you deleted the account without completing the cancellation steps, billing may have continued. Runway's fix is to log back in - which will likely create a new account, and it says that's okay - then contact support via the ? icon in the dashboard with the charge amount and date so the ticket can be escalated and the original account identified.

Do I lose my Runway projects and generated assets when I cancel?

No. Runway says your assets and projects will remain on your account unless you delete your account entirely. For plans bought in the mobile apps, Runway says that once the plan ends you will still have access to any media you generated in the app. One limit does apply on the Free plan: Runway says you cannot create new projects if you already have more than three.

Can I still use purchased Runway credits after cancelling?

Yes. Runway says purchased credits remain on your account until spent and do not expire. But it adds that your current plan level determines feature availability, not the plan type at the time the credits were purchased - so generations made after downgrading to the Basic tier will have watermarks. Monthly plan credits are different: they reset on your billing date and are forfeited at the end of each cycle, except on the Max plan where up to one month rolls over, and Runway says the balance resets to 0 once you have cancelled.

How do I cancel a Runway plan I bought in the App Store or Google Play?

In that store. Runway documents both paths: on iOS open Settings, tap your name, tap Subscriptions, tap Runway, then Cancel Subscription. On Android open the Google Play Store app, tap your profile icon, tap Payments & subscriptions then Subscriptions, tap Runway, then Cancel subscription. If Runway isn't listed, it suggests you may be signed in with a different Apple ID or Google account than the one that bought it.
