Step-by-step cancellation

These steps only appear when the flow was verified against an official provider or platform source.

If you are cancelling a Miro Starter or Business subscription outright

  1. 1

Ensure you have switched to the team associated with the subscription you want to cancel.

  2. 2

From your Miro dashboard, click your profile avatar in the top-right corner and select Admin console | Settings.

  3. 3

On the left sidebar, click Billing.

  4. 4

In the Billing actions section, click Cancel subscription, then click Continue to cancel. (On Business, Miro then shows a Cancel subscription option and a Cancel subscription button.)

  5. 5

Select the reason for cancelling and click Continue to cancel; if you are switching to another tool, select the appropriate option.

  6. 6

Click Cancel subscription — a dialog box appears confirming your cancellation.

  • Miro states "You can cancel your subscription at any time. After cancellation, you will still have access to paid features until the end of the current billing period."
  • All admins on the team receive an email confirming the subscription is set to expire at the end of the current billing period.
  • Once cancelled, admins are unable to change the team size or the plan type unless the subscription is reactivated.
  • Miro says to contact Miro Support if you have any issues cancelling your subscription.

If you want to downgrade Miro to the Free plan instead

  1. 1

Miro states "Only Admins or Billing Admins can initiate a plan downgrade. The process involves canceling your current subscription and then selecting a lower-tier plan once the current subscription period expires."

  2. 2

Click your profile avatar in the top-right corner, then click Admin console, and click Billing on the left sidebar.

  3. 3

Under Billing actions, click Cancel subscription, then click Continue.

  4. 4

Follow the on-screen instructions to specify your reason for downgrading, and that you are staying with Miro and just switching plans, then click Cancel subscription.

  5. 5

Check your expiration date under Plan details in billing settings, and come back on that date — Miro prompts you to choose your new plan, and you click Downgrade under Free plan.

  6. 6

On a Business plan, review the presented details about managing access first and make any necessary changes to your boards, team members and guests before clicking Downgrade.

  • Miro warns that if you have multiple teams they will be merged into one Free plan: all Members, Guests and boards from all teams are merged, all Guests are converted to Members, and private boards become locked.
  • Going from Business to Starter is handled as a scheduled downgrade instead — you tick checkboxes agreeing to Miro's Terms of Service and to downgrade at the end of the billing cycle, click Continue, select a reason and click Downgrade. Miro says you can undo it before the billing cycle ends via Admin console > Billing > Cancel downgrade.

Expect a retention offer

  • The cancel flow requires selecting a reason for cancelling before it will continue
  • Miro also asks which tool you are switching to as an optional step inside the same flow
  • Cancelling runs through stacked dialogs: Cancel subscription, Continue to cancel, the reason screen, Continue to cancel again, then a final Cancel subscription button (Business adds an extra Cancel subscription option and button after the first Continue to cancel)
  • There is no direct downgrade-to-Free button — Miro documents downgrading as cancelling the subscription first and then choosing the Free plan once the current period expires
  • If you do nothing after the period ends, every board locks to view-only, which pushes you toward renewing rather than leaving

Common problems

Only official-source troubleshooting notes are included here.

Your Miro boards went view-only after the subscription ended.

That is documented behaviour, not a fault. Miro states that when the billing period ends, all boards become locked in view-only mode for all team members, and that the boards are not deleted. To regain full access you either downgrade to a free plan — Miro prompts you to choose a new plan on the expiration date — or renew the subscription through its Reactivate your subscription flow.

You can't find a downgrade option in Miro.

There isn't a standalone one. Miro states the downgrade process involves cancelling your current subscription first and then selecting a lower-tier plan once the current subscription period expires. Run Admin console > Billing > Cancel subscription, say you are staying with Miro and just switching plans, then check your expiration date under Plan details and return that day to click Downgrade under Free plan.

Miro charged your card right after you cancelled.

Miro documents this: if there is an unpaid invoice for additional licenses at the time of cancellation, your registered card is charged immediately for the outstanding amount. Check the Billing section for outstanding license invoices before cancelling, and raise anything you dispute with Miro Support — Miro does not refund unused subscription time.

The Cancel subscription button is greyed out or missing in your Miro Billing actions.

Miro limits cancellation of Starter and Business subscriptions to Team admins, Billing admins and Company admins, and limits plan downgrades to Admins or Billing Admins. Also confirm you have switched to the team that actually holds the subscription — Miro's first documented step. If you hold the right role and still can't proceed, Miro's article says to contact Miro Support.

What happens after you cancel?

Post-cancellation details like access, downgrade behavior, and refund caveats are shown only when the provider documents them.

  • Paid features continue until the end of the current billing period.
  • All admins on the team receive an email confirming that the subscription is set to expire at the end of the current billing period.
  • Admins cannot change the team size or the plan type unless the subscription is reactivated.
  • When the billing period ends, Miro locks all boards in view-only mode for every team member — the boards are not deleted.
  • To get editing back you either downgrade to a free plan or renew the subscription; Miro documents a separate Reactivate your subscription flow for the latter.
  • Any unpaid invoice for additional licenses is charged to your registered card immediately at the time of cancellation.

Refund notes

  • Miro states "Miro does not offer refunds for any unused time on your subscription." What you get instead is access to all paid features until the end of the paid period. Miro also warns that if there is an unpaid invoice for additional licenses at the time of cancellation, your registered card is charged immediately for the outstanding amount — so settle or query any license additions before you cancel.

FAQ

How do I cancel my Miro subscription?

Switch to the team that holds the subscription, click your profile avatar in the top-right corner and select Admin console | Settings, click Billing on the left sidebar, then under Billing actions click Cancel subscription. Click Continue to cancel, select a reason, click Continue to cancel again, and finish with the Cancel subscription button. Miro restricts this to Team admins, Billing admins and Company admins.

What happens to my Miro boards after I cancel?

You keep paid features until the end of the current billing period. After that, Miro states all boards become locked in view-only mode for all team members. The boards are not deleted — to regain full access you either downgrade to a free plan or renew the subscription. On the Free plan, private boards become locked and multi-team accounts are merged into one team.

Does Miro refund the unused part of my subscription?

No. Miro states "Miro does not offer refunds for any unused time on your subscription," and instead lets you keep paid features until the end of the paid period. It also warns that if there is an unpaid invoice for additional licenses at the time of cancellation, your registered card is charged immediately for the outstanding amount.

How do I downgrade Miro to the Free plan rather than cancel completely?

Miro treats them as the same flow. It states "The process involves canceling your current subscription and then selecting a lower-tier plan once the current subscription period expires." So cancel through Admin console > Billing > Cancel subscription, saying you are staying with Miro and just switching plans, then return on the expiration date shown under Plan details and click Downgrade under Free plan.

Who can cancel a Miro subscription?

Team admins, Billing admins and Company admins, on Starter and Business plans, from a browser or the desktop app. Plan downgrades specifically are limited to Admins or Billing Admins. If Cancel subscription is missing from your Billing actions section, you do not hold one of those roles — and Miro says to contact Miro Support if you have issues cancelling.
