How to cancel Apple News+

Apple News+ is billed through your Apple Account, so you cancel it yourself — no chat or phone call required. On iPhone or iPad, open Settings, tap your name, tap Subscriptions, tap Apple News+, then tap Cancel Subscription. The same switch lives at account.apple.com. If News+ arrived inside Apple One Premier, you cancel or change the bundle instead.

Menus and labels can change. If the steps below don’t match what you see, use the official help link on this page.

Can you cancel online?
yes
Where to start

Apple or Google billed?
Possible
Keeps access until
Canceling switches off auto-renew rather than cutting you off instantly — the Subscriptions screen swaps the Cancel button for an expiration message in red text showing when it lapses. Apple's Media Services Terms state that when a subscription to a service ends, you lose access to functionality and content that required it, which covers News+ magazines, newspapers, puzzles, audio stories, and downloaded offline issues.
Contract / fees
No minimum term, commitment, or early-termination fee is documented for a standard Apple News+ subscription — Apple's Media Services Terms state that subscriptions renew automatically until cancelled in the Manage Subscriptions section of account settings. Only the account holder can cancel: Apple states you can't cancel a family member's subscription, so if the receipt shows a relative's Apple Account, that person has to run the steps. Apple News+ is also not available in every country or region.

Step-by-step cancellation

These steps only appear when the flow was verified against an official provider or platform source.

Cancel Apple News+ in Settings (iPhone, iPad, Apple Vision Pro)

  1. 1

Open the Settings app and tap your name at the top.

  2. 2

    Tap Subscriptions.

  3. 3

    Tap the Apple News+ subscription.

  4. 4

Tap Cancel Subscription — you may need to scroll down to find it.

  5. 5

If there is no Cancel button, or you see an expiration message in red text, Apple says the subscription is already canceled.

Cancel from inside the Apple News app on iPhone

  1. 1

Open the News app on your iPhone.

  2. 2

Tap Following, scroll down, then tap Subscriptions (below Manage).

  3. 3

Apple News+ only: tap Cancel Subscription, then follow the onscreen instructions.

  4. 4

Apple News+ plus individual channels: select Apple News+ first, then tap Cancel Subscription and follow the onscreen instructions.

Cancel Apple News+ in a browser at account.apple.com

  1. 1

Go to account.apple.com/account/manage/section/subscriptions and sign in with the Apple Account that is billed.

  2. 2

Follow the onscreen instructions to find Apple News+ and cancel it.

  3. 3

If you can't find the subscription, Apple suggests searching your email for a receipt or invoice from Apple to see which Apple Account was charged.

Cancel Apple News+ on a Mac

  1. 1

Open the App Store app and click your name in the sidebar (click Sign In if your name isn't there).

  2. 2

    Click Account Settings.

  3. 3

    Click Subscriptions.

  4. 4

    Click the Apple News+ subscription.

  5. 5

Click Cancel Subscription. No Cancel button or a red expiration message means it's already canceled.

Cancel Apple News+ from a Windows PC

  1. 1

Open the Apple Music app or Apple TV app on your PC.

  2. 2

Click your name at the bottom of the sidebar, then choose View My Account and sign in to your Apple Account.

  3. 3

Scroll to the Settings section and click Manage next to Subscriptions.

  4. 4

Find Apple News+, click Edit, then click Cancel Subscription.

If Apple News+ came through a carrier or other provider

  1. 1

Check your bank or card statement to see which company actually bills you.

  2. 2

If a wireless carrier or other provider supplies the subscription, Apple says to contact that carrier or provider for support — you cancel with them, not in Settings.

  3. 3

If you need the linked Apple Account changed, contact Apple Support first, then set the subscription up again with the carrier.

Expect a retention offer

  • No documented save offer, discount pitch, or retention agent — Apple's published steps end at Cancel Subscription plus the onscreen instructions.
  • Bundle lock: if News+ reaches you through Apple One Premier, Apple's News+ guide has no News+-only off switch and redirects you to canceling or changing the entire bundle.
  • Buried in-app control: inside the News app the Subscriptions link sits under Following, below the Manage heading, and only after scrolling — the Settings path is far more direct.
  • Billing timing trap: Apple charges up to 24 hours before the next period begins, so a last-minute cancel can still be billed for one more cycle.
  • Wrong-account confusion: if a family member's Apple Account paid, no Cancel button appears for you — Apple states you cannot cancel a family member's subscription.

Common problems

Only official-source troubleshooting notes are included here.

What happens after you cancel?

Post-cancellation details like access, downgrade behavior, and refund caveats are shown only when the provider documents them.

  • Auto-renewal stops and the Subscriptions entry shows an expiration message in red text instead of a Cancel button — Apple treats that as confirmation the cancellation went through.
  • The free Apple News app keeps working. You lose only the News+ tier: hundreds of magazines and newspapers, exclusive daily crosswords, News+ audio stories, and premium local and sports titles.
  • Downloaded issues saved for offline reading stop being available once the subscription lapses, per Apple's terms on losing access to subscription content.
  • Anyone in your Family Sharing group loses Apple News+ at the same time — one subscription covers up to five other family members, and canceling ends it for all of them.
  • No prorated refund is issued for canceling mid-period; a refund has to be requested separately at reportaproblem.apple.com and is reviewed by Apple.
  • If you cancel a free trial of an Apple subscription before it ends, Apple states you cannot reactivate that free trial later.

Refund notes

  • Canceling on its own does not produce a prorated refund — Apple documents no automatic money back for the unused part of a period. Refunds are a separate, self-serve request: sign in at reportaproblem.apple.com, choose "I'd like to," pick Request a refund, choose a reason, select the Apple News+ charge, and submit. Apple says to allow 24 to 48 hours for an update and that refund eligibility varies by country or region. The one documented proration is different: if you move from an individual Apple News+ subscription to Apple One, Apple says the individual service is canceled when you're billed for Apple One and you receive a prorated refund. For a trial, Apple's stated rule is to cancel at least 24 hours before the trial ends, because Apple charges up to 24 hours before a new period starts.

FAQ

Can I cancel Apple News+ without calling or chatting with anyone?

Yes. Apple's cancellation article lists device and browser paths only — Settings on iPhone, iPad or Vision Pro, the App Store app on Mac, the Apple Music or Apple TV app on Windows, or account.apple.com. There is no phone or live-chat step for a News+ subscription billed by Apple.

How do I cancel Apple News+ if I got it through Apple One Premier?

You can't drop News+ on its own from an Apple One Premier plan. Apple's own News+ guide routes Apple One subscribers to its general article on canceling a subscription from Apple, where you cancel or change the whole bundle from the same Subscriptions screen.

Will I lose Apple News+ issues I downloaded for offline reading?

Apple's Media Services Terms state that when a subscription ends you lose access to functionality and content that required it. Downloaded News+ issues are subscription content, so finish anything time-sensitive before your paid period runs out.

I canceled Apple News+ but the News app still opens — did it not work?

That's expected. Apple News itself stays on your device; canceling removes only the News+ layer — magazines, newspapers, exclusive puzzles, audio stories, and offline issues. To confirm, reopen Subscriptions: a red expiration message replaces the Cancel Subscription button once it's canceled.

Where is the Cancel Subscription button inside the Apple News app itself?

Open News, tap Following, scroll down, then tap Subscriptions below Manage. If you have Apple News+ plus individual channel subscriptions, select Apple News+ first, then tap Cancel Subscription and follow the onscreen instructions.
