How to cancel Wall Street Journal

The Wall Street Journal renews until you cancel. California and some digital subscribers can cancel online in the WSJ Customer Center under Manage Subscriptions; most other subscribers must call 1-800-JOURNAL (1-800-568-7625). App Store or Google Play subscribers cancel through Apple or Google. Cancel a few working days before renewal to avoid the next charge.

Subscriptions auto-renew. Per WSJ's subscriber agreement, cancel a monthly plan at least 5 working days before renewal, or an annual plan at least 10 working days before renewal, to avoid being billed for the next term. Annual subscribers are notified of the pending renewal at least 30 days in advance. There is no early-termination fee — you can cancel at any time. Notice is stated in "working days," so build in a buffer; check current terms.

Common problems

Only official-source troubleshooting notes are included here.

What happens after you cancel?

Post-cancellation details like access, downgrade behavior, and refund caveats are shown only when the provider documents them.

  • Renewal stops and you won't be billed for the next term.
  • Monthly/quarterly subscribers keep access through the end of the current billing cycle.
  • Annual/semi-annual subscribers may lose access at cancellation and receive a prorated refund for remaining full months (not within the final 30 days).
  • Keep the cancellation confirmation email or reference number in case of a billing dispute.

Refund notes

  • WSJ states fees are generally nonrefundable. Monthly/quarterly plans get no mid-cycle refund — access continues to the end of the current billing cycle. Annual/semi-annual plans may receive a prorated refund for remaining full months, except when cancelling within the final 30 days. Check current pricing and refund terms.

FAQ

Can I cancel the WSJ online, or do I have to call?

Online self-cancel in the Customer Center (Manage Subscriptions > Cancel Subscription) is offered to California residents and some digital subscribers. Non-California, print, and international subscribers are generally directed to call Customer Service at 1-800-JOURNAL (1-800-568-7625). Check what your account shows.

I subscribed through the App Store, Google Play, or Amazon — how do I cancel?

If you're billed through Apple, Google, or Amazon, cancel through that platform's subscription settings, not the WSJ Customer Center. Removing it in your WSJ account alone won't stop app-store or third-party billing.

Will I get a refund if I cancel?

WSJ says fees are generally nonrefundable. Monthly/quarterly plans keep access to the end of the current cycle with no refund; annual/semi-annual plans may get a prorated refund for remaining full months, except within the final 30 days. Check current terms.

How far ahead do I need to cancel to avoid the next charge?

Per WSJ's subscriber agreement, cancel a monthly plan at least 5 working days before renewal, or an annual plan at least 10 working days before renewal. Annual subscribers receive at least 30 days' notice of a pending renewal.
