How to cancel Adobe Lightroom

Adobe Lightroom cancels online at account.adobe.com/plans: Manage plan, Cancel your plan, pick a reason, confirm. Subscriptions bought inside the iPhone or Android app cancel through Apple or Google instead. Access runs to the end of the current billing period. Annual plans paid monthly are a one-year term and can carry an early-termination fee — check the amount shown on screen before you confirm.

Can you cancel online?
yes
Where to start
Adobe account, Plans and payment section (account.adobe.com/plans) — unless you subscribed inside the Lightroom mobile app, in which case the subscription lives in the App Store or Google Play subscription list.

Possible
Keeps access until
End of the current billing period. Adobe states access to paid apps and services continues until the current billing period finishes, and that you can reactivate the plan from your Adobe account at any point before then, restoring apps, services and storage.
Contract / fees
Adobe sells Lightroom on three plan shapes: annual paid monthly, annual prepaid, and month-to-month. The two annual plans are a one-year term. An annual plan paid monthly can carry an early-termination (cancellation) fee if you cancel after the initial post-purchase refund window; Adobe shows any fee that applies on the cancellation screen before you confirm, so read the figure there rather than assuming one, and check Adobe's current plan terms since amounts and windows change. An annual prepaid plan is also a one-year commitment and is generally not refunded once the initial window has passed. A month-to-month plan has no term commitment. In 2024 the US Department of Justice, on FTC referral, filed a complaint in the Northern District of California alleging Adobe did not adequately disclose the early-termination fee attached to the annual-paid-monthly plan and made cancellation unduly difficult; the matter is listed as pending.

Step-by-step cancellation

These steps only appear when the flow was verified against an official provider or platform source.

Cancel a Lightroom plan bought directly from Adobe

  1. 1

Sign in to your Adobe account at account.adobe.com/plans.

  2. 2

In the Plans and payment window, select Manage plan for the plan you want to cancel.

  3. 3

Select Cancel your plan. (Adobe notes you cannot cancel while a payment is processing or if there is a payment problem — wait 24 hours and try again.)

  4. 4

Check your plan details and then select Continue to cancel.

  5. 5

Select the reason for cancellation, and then select Continue.

  6. 6

Review the cancellation details — including any fee or refund Adobe shows for your plan type — and then select Confirm cancellation.

  7. 7

Check your email for a confirmation from Adobe, or verify the cancellation on your account page.

  8. 8

If you hold more than one Adobe plan, repeat for each one — Adobe states each plan must be cancelled separately.

Cancel a Lightroom subscription bought in the app on iPhone or iPad

  1. 1

Open the App Store app on your iPhone or iPad.

  2. 2

Tap your profile icon, then tap Subscriptions.

  3. 3

Select the Adobe Lightroom subscription from the list.

  4. 4

Tap Cancel Subscription and follow the prompts to confirm.

  5. 5

For a billing issue or refund, use Apple's own request-a-refund process — App Store subscriptions are billed and refunded by Apple, not by Adobe.

Cancel a Lightroom subscription bought on Google Play (Android)

  1. 1

Open the Google Play Store app on your Android device and tap your profile icon.

  2. 2

Tap Payments & subscriptions, then Subscriptions.

  3. 3

    Select the Lightroom subscription.

  4. 4

Tap Cancel subscription and follow the prompts to confirm.

  5. 5

For a refund, use Google Play's own refund request process — Play purchases are billed and refunded by Google, not by Adobe.

  6. 6

If you bought through the Samsung Galaxy Store rather than Google Play, cancel in the Galaxy Store subscription list instead.

  • Multi-screen cancel funnel: Manage plan, then Cancel your plan, then Continue to cancel, then a reason screen, then Confirm cancellation
  • A reason-for-cancellation selection is required before the final confirm step
  • The Manage plan screen presents changing and upgrading the plan alongside cancelling
  • Cancellation is blocked while a payment is processing or if there is a payment problem — Adobe says to wait 24 hours and try again
  • Each plan must be cancelled separately; cancelling one Adobe plan does not cancel other active plans
  • The early-termination fee for annual-paid-monthly plans is documented on a separate terms article rather than on the cancel page itself; the pending FTC/DOJ complaint alleges this disclosure was inadequate and that cancellation required navigating numerous pages

Common problems

Only official-source troubleshooting notes are included here.

What happens after you cancel?

Post-cancellation details like access, downgrade behavior, and refund caveats are shown only when the provider documents them.

  • Paid apps and services remain available until the end of the current billing period; the Adobe account itself stays active with free membership benefits.
  • Creative Cloud storage is reduced to the free allowance. If you are over that limit you have a grace period to reduce usage before you could lose access to some or all files stored on Adobe's servers.
  • Adobe states it continues to store your original Lightroom images for a period after the membership lapses, and you can still launch Lightroom during that time to download the originals — do this promptly rather than relying on the window.
  • Lightroom Classic still opens local photos and supports import, organize, Export, Publish, Print, Web and Slideshow, but the Develop and Map modules and Lightroom on mobile become unavailable.
  • Any remaining generative credits included with the subscription expire when the subscription is cancelled.
  • A confirmation email arrives from Adobe; the cancellation can also be verified on the account page.
  • Reactivating within the remaining billing period restores apps, services and storage, and billing continues as scheduled.

Refund notes

  • Adobe documents a short refund window after an initial purchase, but the exact length and any fee should be read from Adobe's current cancellation help page and from the cancellation screen itself, which displays the outcome before you confirm. Cancelling mid-cycle does not refund the current period — service simply runs to the end of it. Subscriptions bought inside the Lightroom mobile app are refunded by Apple or Google under their own refund policies, not by Adobe.

FAQ

Does cancelling Adobe Lightroom delete my photos?

Not immediately. Adobe states it continues to store your original Lightroom images for a period after the membership lapses, and you can still launch Lightroom during that window to download the originals. Separately, Creative Cloud storage drops to the free allowance, and if you are over that limit there is a grace period to move files out before you could lose access. Download everything you care about before you cancel rather than relying on the grace window.

Why does Adobe charge a cancellation fee when I cancel Lightroom?

Because of the plan type, not the product. On an annual plan paid monthly you are in a one-year term, and Adobe can apply an early-termination (cancellation) fee if you cancel after the initial post-purchase window. The cancellation screen shows the exact amount for your plan before you confirm — read it there. A month-to-month Lightroom plan carries no such fee.

I subscribed to Lightroom inside the iPhone app — why can't I find it in my Adobe account?

Because Adobe never billed you. A Lightroom subscription purchased from the App Store is billed and managed by Apple through your Apple account, so it does not appear under Plans in account.adobe.com. Cancel it in App Store, profile icon, Subscriptions, Adobe Lightroom, Cancel Subscription. The same applies to Google Play purchases, which are managed by Google.

Does cancelling Lightroom also cancel Photoshop or my other Adobe plans?

No. Adobe explicitly states that if you have more than one plan, each plan must be cancelled separately, and cancelling one plan does not cancel your other active plans. After cancelling Lightroom, check your Adobe account to review which plans are still active.

Will Lightroom Classic still work after I cancel?

Partly. Adobe states you can continue to access photos on your local hard drive through Lightroom for the desktop, and can still import, organize, and output photos through Export, Publish, Print, Web or Slideshow. The Develop and Map modules and Lightroom on mobile become unavailable once the membership ends.
