How to cancel Trello

Cancel Trello on the web: select the Trello logo in the header, pick the Workspace, select Billing, then select Cancel at the bottom of the page. Only Workspace admins can do it, and the plan is canceled at the end of its billing period. Trello's desktop and mobile apps can't manage subscriptions.

Menus and labels can change. If the steps below don’t match what you see, use the official help link on this page.

Step-by-step cancellation

These steps only appear when the flow was verified against an official provider or platform source.

If you manage the Trello Workspace plan directly

  1. 1

Open Trello in a web browser — Atlassian says the desktop and mobile apps don't currently support subscription management.

  2. 2

Select the Trello logo in the header.

  3. 3

    Select the Workspace.

  4. 4

    Select Billing.

  5. 5

Select Cancel at the bottom of the page.

  • To switch tiers rather than cancel outright, Atlassian's steps are the same up to Billing, then Select Explore plans to see the current upgrade and downgrade options and choose the plan you prefer.
  • A downgrade to Standard takes effect at the end of the billing period, while an upgrade to Premium charges a prorated amount immediately.
  • Free trials differ on this (legacy) billing system: Atlassian says a Workspace on a free trial converts to the paid plan at the end of the trial if a payment method is added, and that if you want to cancel the free trial early you have to contact its billing support team through the billing contact form.

If your Trello Workspace is on centralized billing

  1. 1

Select the Trello logo in the header.

  2. 2

    Select the Workspace.

  3. 3

    Select Billing.

  4. 4

Select Change plan to see the current upgrade and downgrade options for your Workspace.

  5. 5

Choose the Free plan. Atlassian states "Your Workspace plan will be canceled at the end of its billing period and it will become a free Workspace."

  • Atlassian notes that on centralized billing the Workspace administrator role is separate from the billing administrator role — you need Workspace admin to change the plan.
  • Cancelling a free trial uses the same path (logo > Workspace > Billing > Change plan) and selecting the Free plan ends the trial immediately.

If you are on Trello Enterprise

  1. 1

Atlassian states that to change an Enterprise plan you contact your assigned advocate or raise a ticket with Trello Support — the Billing screen's self-serve options do not cover Enterprise.

  2. 2

Contact your assigned Trello advocate with the organization or Workspace name and the change you want.

  3. 3

If you don't have an advocate contact, raise a ticket with Trello Support instead.

  4. 4

Ask for the effective date in writing — Workspace plan cancellations otherwise land at the end of the billing period.

Common problems

Only official-source troubleshooting notes are included here.

There is no Billing option under your Trello Workspace.

Atlassian limits plan changes to Workspace administrators, and on centralized billing it notes the Workspace administrator role is separate from the billing administrator role — being one does not make you the other. Ask a Workspace admin to run the Trello logo > Workspace > Billing > Cancel path, or have them grant you the role.

You cancelled Trello and boards have vanished from your Workspace.

They are closed, not deleted. Atlassian states that on the free plan the 10 most active Workspace boards remain open while the others are closed but not deleted, and data from paid features is hidden rather than removed. Reopening a paid plan restores access; exporting data before a downgrade avoids the surprise entirely.

You are trying to cancel Trello from your phone and can't find the option.

It isn't there. Atlassian states the desktop and mobile apps don't currently support subscription management, so subscription changes have to be made in the web version of Trello. Sign in at trello.com in a browser and use the Trello logo > Workspace > Billing path.

What happens after you cancel?

Post-cancellation details like access, downgrade behavior, and refund caveats are shown only when the provider documents them.

  • The Workspace plan is canceled at the end of its billing period; paid features stay active until that date.
  • Atlassian states "Workspaces keep all current paid features until the end of their billing period."
  • On the free plan the 10 most active Workspace boards remain open and the others are closed — but not deleted.
  • Data from paid features is hidden but not deleted; export it beforehand, or upgrade again to view it.
  • Boards become view-only until the number of collaborators is reduced below 10.

Refund notes

  • Atlassian's "How billing works with Trello Premium and Standard" article states "Refunds are available within the first 30 days of upgrading a Workspace." Outside that window, a cancelled Workspace plan simply runs to the end of its billing period — all Workspace subscriptions are paid in advance. Removing someone from a Workspace frees their seat, which you can reassign to someone else at no extra cost until the end of the billing period, and Atlassian says that if you have empty seats when the Workspace subscription renews you won't be charged for them.

FAQ

How do I cancel my Trello Premium or Standard plan?

In a web browser, select the Trello logo in the header, select the Workspace, select Billing, and select Cancel at the bottom of the page. Only Workspace administrators can do this. If your Workspace is on centralized billing, the path is the same up to Billing, then Change plan and choose the Free plan. Atlassian cancels the plan at the end of its billing period.

Can I cancel Trello from the mobile or desktop app?

No. Atlassian states "You can change or cancel your Workspace plan from the web version of Trello. Our desktop and mobile apps don't currently support subscription management." Open trello.com in a browser and use the Trello logo > Workspace > Billing path instead.

What happens to my Trello boards when I downgrade to the free plan?

Atlassian says the 10 most active Workspace boards remain open and other boards are closed but not deleted. Data from paid features is hidden, also not deleted. Boards become view-only until the number of collaborators is reduced below 10. Atlassian suggests closing or moving extra boards to another Workspace before downgrading, and exporting data you want to keep readable.

Does Trello refund a Workspace upgrade if I cancel?

Atlassian's "How billing works with Trello Premium and Standard" article states "Refunds are available within the first 30 days of upgrading a Workspace." After that window there is no documented mid-cycle refund — Workspace subscriptions are paid in advance and the plan simply runs to the end of its billing period. Empty seats are not charged at renewal, and a freed seat can be reassigned at no extra cost until the period ends.

Who is allowed to cancel a Trello Workspace subscription?

Workspace administrators. Atlassian states only Workspace admins can change or cancel Trello Premium or Standard Workspace plans, and notes that on centralized billing the Workspace administrator role is separate from the billing administrator role. Enterprise plan changes go through your assigned advocate or a ticket with Trello Support instead.
