How to cancel Scout Alarm

Scout's monitoring plans carry no annual contract, but cancelling is not self-serve: the help article says to call 1-844-AT-SCOUT. Your plan runs to the end of the current billing cycle, then stops renewing. Plan switches are self-serve under Subscriptions in the Scout dashboard or app. Cancelling a yearly plan early re-bills past months at the monthly rate.

Contract / fees
Unusually for professional monitoring, Scout documents no term commitment. The monitoring plans page states "No annual contract" and that you can "Change service plans whenever you want with no penalty," and Scout publishes no early-termination fee for either Always On (self-monitoring) or Always On+ (professional monitoring). Monitoring is sold and billed by Scout itself rather than through an authorised alarm dealer, so the reader deals with Scout directly. (Scout hardware is also sold via Amazon and other retailers, and hardware bought there is returned under that retailer's policy — but the monitoring plan is always Scout's own.) The one documented catch applies to yearly plans: cancelling before the billing cycle ends means past months are re-billed at the monthly rate.

Step-by-step cancellation

These steps only appear when the flow was verified against an official provider or platform source.

Cancel Scout monitoring by phone

  1. 1

Have your Scout account email and your Scout location name to hand.

  2. 2

Call Scout at 1-844-AT-SCOUT (844-287-2688). Scout's help article answers "How do I cancel my monitoring plan?" with: "If you wish to cancel your monitoring plan, please call us at 1-844-AT-SCOUT for help."

  3. 3

Ask the agent to cancel the monitoring plan on your Scout location.

  4. 4

Confirm the end date: Scout documents that a cancelled plan "will remain active through the end of the billing cycle" and that "when the billing cycle ends, your plan will not auto-renew."

  5. 5

If you are on a yearly plan, confirm the re-billing before you finalise — Scout documents that cancelling a yearly plan before the end of the billing cycle means "you will be billed at the monthly rate for past months."

  6. 6

Ask what happens to camera cloud storage: Always On+ bundles free storage for your first camera or doorbell, which ends with the plan, while additional cameras (and cameras on the Always On self-monitoring plan) are billed as separate per-camera add-ons — check current pricing for anything you want to keep.

Switch or downgrade your plan yourself (self-serve alternative)

  1. 1

Log into your Scout account at www.scoutalarm.com, or open the Scout iOS/Android app.

  2. 2

In the left-hand menu, select "Subscriptions" — Scout documents that here you can view and change your current monitoring plan.

  3. 3

    Tap your Scout location name.

  4. 4

Select "Switch Plan" to choose a new plan.

  5. 5

Select your new plan from the listed options.

  6. 6

Timing per Scout's documentation: upgrading to Always On+ happens immediately and the payment is prorated; downgrading to Always On takes effect at the next billing cycle, and you keep your current plan's benefits until the end of the current cycle.

  7. 7

Note that this route changes your plan — it does not cancel it. Scout documents cancellation as a phone call.

If the dashboard or app will not let you change or cancel

  1. 1

Scout's help article covers this case under the heading "Help! I'm not able to change or cancel my plan."

  2. 2

Email orders@scoutalarm.com, which is the address Scout's article gives for plan-change trouble.

  3. 3

Alternatively use the live chat or contact form in Scout's help center, or the contact section at https://www.scoutalarm.com/pages/support.

  4. 4

General Scout support is also reachable at support@scoutalarm.com and 844-287-2688.

  5. 5

Keep a written record of the request and the date, since cancellation otherwise leaves no self-serve paper trail.

Expect a retention offer

  • Cancellation is routed to a live phone agent in Scout's own documentation, while upgrades and plan switches are self-serve in the dashboard — the harder path is reserved for leaving.
  • The documented dashboard control is "Switch Plan" rather than a cancel button, steering users toward the cheaper self-monitoring tier instead of an exit.
  • Yearly subscribers face retroactive re-billing of past months at the higher monthly rate if they cancel mid-term, which raises the cost of leaving early.

Common problems

Only official-source troubleshooting notes are included here.

What happens after you cancel?

Post-cancellation details like access, downgrade behavior, and refund caveats are shown only when the provider documents them.

  • The plan stays active through the end of the current billing cycle, then does not auto-renew.
  • Features tied to the plan end with it — professional monitoring and police/fire dispatch on Always On+, plus the 4G LTE backup and unlimited notifications included with both plans.
  • Cancelling a yearly plan before the cycle ends means past months are re-billed at the monthly rate.
  • You keep the Scout hardware. Scout documents no equipment-return requirement tied to cancelling monitoring — returns are governed separately by the 60-day window and the 3-year warranty.
  • Camera cloud storage is a per-camera add-on, but Always On+ bundles free cloud storage for your first camera or doorbell — that included storage ends when the plan does. Storage for additional cameras (and for every camera on the self-monitoring Always On plan) is billed separately; check current pricing.

Refund notes

  • Scout documents no mid-cycle refund for monitoring — a cancelled plan simply runs to the end of the paid billing cycle. For yearly plans, Scout documents that cancelling before the cycle ends results in being billed at the monthly rate for past months, so the annual discount is clawed back for months already used rather than refunded as a lump sum. Hardware is handled separately: Scout documents a 60-day return window from the original date of receipt with a prepaid return label, a possible 10% restocking fee if an item is heavily damaged (Scout also reserves the right to declare a heavily damaged item ineligible for a refund), shipping not included, and a 3-year device warranty.

FAQ

Can I cancel Scout Alarm monitoring online, or do I have to call?

You have to call. Scout's help center answers the cancellation question directly: call 1-844-AT-SCOUT (844-287-2688). The Subscriptions area of the Scout dashboard at scoutalarm.com and the iOS/Android app let you switch plans yourself, but the only cancellation route Scout documents is the phone line.

Does Scout Alarm lock you into a monitoring contract or charge an early termination fee?

No. Scout's monitoring plans page states "No annual contract" and that you can "Change service plans whenever you want with no penalty." Scout publishes no term commitment and no early-termination fee for either Always On or Always On+. Monitoring is also sold and billed by Scout itself rather than through an authorised alarm dealer, so there is no third party in the middle of the cancellation.

What happens if I cancel my Scout Alarm yearly plan partway through the year?

Scout documents that cancelling a yearly plan before the end of the billing cycle means you will be billed at the monthly rate for past months. In practice the annual discount is reversed for the months you already used, rather than refunded to you as a lump sum. Confirm the figure with the agent before finalising.

Do I have to send back my Scout Alarm hub and sensors when I cancel monitoring?

Scout documents no equipment-return requirement tied to cancelling a monitoring plan — the hardware is bought outright, unlike leased alarm equipment. Returns are governed separately: Scout documents that returns must be received within 60 days of the original date of receipt, with a prepaid return label, a possible 10% restocking fee if an item is heavily damaged (Scout also reserves the right to declare a heavily damaged item ineligible for a refund), and a 3-year device warranty. Scout hardware bought from Amazon or another retailer is returned under that retailer's policy instead.

What happens to my Scout Alarm camera cloud storage when I cancel?

Cloud storage is a per-camera add-on, but Always On+ bundles free storage for your first camera or doorbell — that included storage ends when the plan does. Storage for additional cameras, and for every camera on the self-monitoring Always On plan, is billed separately, so ask the agent which line items stop and which continue, and check current pricing for anything you want to keep.
