Step-by-step cancellation

These steps only appear when the flow was verified against an official provider or platform source.

If you subscribed through Otter.ai (web)

  1. 1

Sign in to Otter.ai as an admin at otter.ai/signin.

  2. 2

Click on your profile in the left navigation menu. Select (Integrations) Account Settings, then Billing, then Cancel plan.

  3. 3

Select your main reason for unsubscribing, and then click Continue.

  4. 4

Carefully review the information in the pop-up - the message may vary depending on your plan or workspace - and click Cancel subscription to confirm.

  5. 5

Confirm the result: Otter says the subscription has been cancelled and will expire at the end of the billing period, and that you and any member in your workspace can continue to use the paid features until then.

  • Otter says subscriptions purchased through Otter.ai must be managed on a web browser. You can reach the same page from the mobile app by tapping Account, then Account Settings, scrolling down to Manage subscription, then Cancel subscription and Continue - this opens the mobile web view.
  • Changed your mind? Otter says you can reactivate the plan any time before it expires, or repurchase it after it expires, on the billing page at otter.ai/setting/plan.
  • Otter offers Pause Plan on the same page as an alternative to cancelling.

If you subscribed in the Otter iOS app

  1. 1

Otter states that for subscriptions purchased through the Apple App Store you must manage the subscription directly on Apple's platform for any request regarding billing, refunds or cancellations.

  2. 2

On your iPhone or iPad, open the Settings app and tap your name.

  3. 3

    Tap Subscriptions.

  4. 4

    Tap the Otter subscription.

  5. 5

Tap Cancel Subscription - Apple notes you might need to scroll down to find the button.

  6. 6

Refer to Apple's refund policy for that purchase; Otter says its own no-refund policy is separate from the store's.

  • The tap-by-tap steps come from Apple's own guide at https://support.apple.com/en-us/118428. Otter's article links to https://support.apple.com/billing for App Store billing.
  • An App Store subscription will not be cancellable from otter.ai/setting/plan.

If you subscribed in the Otter Android app

  1. 1

Otter states that for subscriptions purchased through the Google Play Store you must manage the subscription directly on Google's platform for billing, refunds or cancellations.

  2. 2

On your Android device, go to subscriptions in Google Play. Google says to make sure you are signed in to the Google Account that has the subscription.

  3. 3

Select the Otter subscription you want to cancel.

  4. 4

    Tap Cancel subscription.

  5. 5

    Follow the instructions.

  6. 6

Google states you can still use the subscription for the time you have already paid for.

  • Otter's article links directly to Google's cancellation guide at https://support.google.com/googleplay/answer/7018481 for this path.
  • Google warns that uninstalling the app does not cancel the subscription.

Expect a retention offer

  • Otter requires a reason before it will proceed: "Select your main reason for unsubscribing, and then click Continue."
  • Otter surfaces a Pause Plan option as an alternative at the point of cancelling: "Don't want to fully cancel your subscription, but need a break? Try using the Pause Plan option instead."

Common problems

Only official-source troubleshooting notes are included here.

You cancelled on the web but Apple or Google is still billing you.

Otter says subscriptions purchased through the Apple App Store or Google Play Store must be managed directly on those platforms for billing, refunds and cancellations. Cancel the Otter entry in your device's subscription settings as well.

You forgot to cancel and were charged for another period.

Otter documents no remedy: it says it does not offer refunds for purchased subscriptions per its Terms of Service, and repeats this specifically for unused portions after a missed cancellation. If the purchase was made through the App Store or Google Play, take the refund request to that store instead.

You are the admin but cannot find Cancel plan.

Otter places it in Account Settings, then Billing at otter.ai/setting/plan, and says on a Business workspace it sits at the bottom of that page. Otter also recommends cancelling a Business subscription in a desktop web browser rather than in the mobile app.

A workspace member wants their own Otter subscription after the workspace plan ends.

Otter's documented sequence is for the admin to remove the member from the workspace, which reverts them to an individual account. They can then purchase a subscription for their own account in Account Settings, then Plan.

What happens after you cancel?

Post-cancellation details like access, downgrade behavior, and refund caveats are shown only when the provider documents them.

  • The subscription is set to expire at the end of the billing period; you and your workspace members keep the paid features until then.
  • Once it expires, the workspace continues on Otter's Basic plan and the Basic plan's limits apply.
  • Otter says your conversations remain in your account whether you downgrade, upgrade or cancel, and are deleted only if you delete them, delete your account, or an admin deletes your account.
  • Team members continue to have access to the 25 most recent conversations after the paid subscription expires.
  • You can reactivate the plan any time before it expires, or repurchase after it expires, from otter.ai/setting/plan.

Refund notes

  • Otter is unambiguous: "Otter does not offer refunds for purchased subscriptions per our Terms of Service." It repeats this for the case where someone forgot to cancel and wants the unused portion back.
  • Because there is no refund route, the 24-hour cutoff is the only protection Otter documents: cancel at least 24 hours before the next billing date to avoid an unwanted charge.
  • For App Store or Google Play purchases, Otter directs all refund requests to those platforms and their own refund policies.
  • Otter invites questions about a specific scenario through its support request form.

FAQ

How late can I cancel Otter.ai before the next charge?

Otter names a 24-hour cutoff: cancel your subscription at least 24 hours before the next billing date to avoid an unwanted charge. That deadline matters more than usual because Otter says subscriptions are non-refundable per its Terms of Service, including where someone forgot to cancel and wants the unused portion back. Check your billing cycle end date in Account Settings, then Plan.

Why can't I cancel my Otter.ai subscription from my account?

Otter says only the owner or admin(s) can cancel an Otter subscription, so a workspace member will not see the option. If you want your own plan instead, Otter's documented route is to ask your admin to remove you from the workspace, which reverts you to an individual account, then purchase a subscription in Account Settings, then Plan.

Will I lose my Otter conversations and transcripts if I cancel?

No. Otter states your conversations will remain in your account whether you downgrade, upgrade or cancel, and are only deleted if you delete them, delete your account, or an admin deletes your account. Access is still subject to plan limits - after the paid subscription expires, Otter says team members continue to have access to the 25 most recent conversations on the Basic plan.

Can I pause an Otter.ai subscription instead of cancelling it?

Yes. Otter surfaces a Pause Plan option in the same place as the cancellation: Account Settings, then Plan, at otter.ai/setting/plan. Its help centre puts it directly in the cancellation steps as an alternative for people who need a break rather than an exit. If you have already cancelled, Otter says you can reactivate the plan any time before it expires from the same billing page.

Does cancelling Otter.ai delete my account?

No. Otter states plainly that cancelling your subscription is not the same as deleting your account, and points to a separate article for account deletion. After cancellation the workspace remains active and continues on the Basic plan once the paid subscription expires, subject to that plan's limits.
