How to cancel Minecraft Realms

Cancel Minecraft Realms through whichever platform you first subscribed on. If billed by Apple, cancel under Settings > [your name] > Subscriptions (or account.apple.com). If billed by Google Play, open the Play Store > Subscriptions. If purchased through another store, cancel in that account. Your Realm stays accessible until the renewal date at the end of the current paid period.

Menus and labels can change. If the steps below don’t match what you see, use the official help link on this page.

Minecraft's help center repeatedly states that a Realms subscription must be canceled through the same platform account used to start it — a Realm bought on PlayStation cannot be canceled from a Microsoft account, and vice versa. Minecraft: Java Edition Realms are always canceled through the Microsoft account. Minecraft: Bedrock Edition Realms are canceled through whichever store processed the purchase. The in-game Settings > Subscriptions screen offers a Cancel button but redirects you out to that store to finish. Also documented but not listed as a separate flow: canceling directly on a PlayStation 5 console via Settings > Users and Accounts > Payment and Subscriptions > Game and App Services > Minecraft > (your Realms subscription) > Turn Off Auto-Renew. No minimum term, cancellation fee, or notice period is documented.

Common problems

Only official-source troubleshooting notes are included here.

What happens after you cancel?

Post-cancellation details like access, downgrade behavior, and refund caveats are shown only when the provider documents them.

  • Your Realm remains accessible until the renewal date; payments are no longer charged automatically.
  • You can restart the Realm at any time. On Bedrock Edition: Settings > Subscription > Renew on the Realm you want to reactivate, then complete the purchase flow. On Java Edition: sign in at minecraft.net, click Realms, find the Realm under Inactive Realms, and click Reactivate.
  • World backups associated with the Realm are deleted 30 days after the subscription expires.
  • The Realm world itself remains downloadable within 18 months of the subscription expiring.

Refund notes

  • Minecraft's refund article states that Realms is a subscription service and is "not typically eligible for full or partial refunds." Instead of a refund, the Realm stays accessible until the renewal date. The article adds that if Mojang caused you to lose access to your Realm you can contact Minecraft Support and may be eligible for a refund if it cannot be fixed. Refunds for the original purchase follow each storefront's own policy (Microsoft/Xbox, Nintendo, PlayStation, Apple, Google Play, Steam). FAQ

Does cancelling Minecraft Realms end access to my Realm immediately?

No. Minecraft's help center states that when you cancel your Minecraft Realms subscription, your Realm will still be accessible until the renewal date — cancelling only stops payments from being charged automatically. You keep playing on the Realm through the rest of the period you already paid for.

Why does Minecraft Realms make me cancel on the same platform I subscribed on?

Minecraft documents that Realms subscriptions must be canceled through the same game platform account used to start the subscription. A Realm purchased on PlayStation cannot be cancelled from a Microsoft account, and one purchased on a mobile store cannot be cancelled from a console. Minecraft: Java Edition Realms are the exception — those are always cancelled through your Microsoft account at account.microsoft.com.

Can I get a refund if I cancel Minecraft Realms in the middle of a billing period?

Minecraft's refund article states that Realms is a subscription service and is not typically eligible for full or partial refunds. Instead, your Realm stays accessible until the renewal date. The article notes that if Mojang has done something that left you unable to access your Realm, you can contact Minecraft Support and may be eligible for a refund if the issue cannot be fixed.

What happens to my Minecraft Realms world and backups after the subscription expires?

Minecraft documents that a Realm world is downloadable within 18 months of your subscription expiring, but the world backups associated with that Realm are deleted 30 days after the subscription expires. If you want to keep the world, download it before those windows close.

Can I restart a Minecraft Realms subscription after cancelling it?

Yes. Minecraft states you can restart your Realm at any time. On Bedrock Edition, open Settings, go to the Subscription section, and click Renew on the Realm you want to reactivate, then complete the purchase flow. On Java Edition, sign in at minecraft.net, click Realms, find the Realm under Inactive Realms, and click Reactivate.
