If you are past your initial period and simply want to leave
- 1
Work out which membership you hold. David Lloyd's UK terms set a three calendar month notice period for Standard Annual and Standard Monthly membership, and one calendar month for Flexible membership.
- 2
Check where you are in the initial period: 12 full calendar months from the 1st of the month after you applied for Standard membership, three months for Flexible.
- 3
Write your notice and send it one of the four ways the terms accept — "Through the David Lloyd Clubs App; by email; by post; or by hand at your club".
- 4
Get proof it arrived. The terms tell you to post by recorded delivery, ask for a receipt if you hand it in, request a delivery receipt by email, or rely on the App's automated receipt.
- 5
Expect written confirmation within 10 days. The terms say if you do not receive it in that time you must immediately let David Lloyd know.
- 6
Keep paying until the notice period runs out, then check the Direct Debit has actually stopped.
- • Notice periods: three full calendar months for Standard Annual and Standard Monthly, one full calendar month for Flexible.
- • Timing matters more than you would think. The terms treat notice given during a month as received on the 1st of the following month — unless it arrives "up to and including the fourth day of a month", in which case it counts from the 1st of that month. Sending on the 3rd rather than the 6th can save you a whole month's fee.
