How to cancel Asana

Cancel Asana from the admin console: click your profile photo in the top-right, select Admin console, open the Billing tab, and under Plan details select Cancel plan. Only a billing owner, admin or super admin can do it. Cancellation takes effect at your next renewal date, and no data is deleted.

Step-by-step cancellation

These steps only appear when the flow was verified against an official provider or platform source.

If you subscribed to Asana online (organization, division or workspace)

  1. 1

Click your profile photo in the top-right corner.

  2. 2

    Select Admin console.

  3. 3

    Navigate to the Billing tab.

  4. 4

Under Plan details, select Cancel plan.

  5. 5

Confirm the effective date — Asana applies paid cancellations at your next renewal date.

  • Asana documents the same path for a paid workspace: profile photo > Admin console > Billing tab > Cancel plan.
  • Asana states "Upgrading or downgrading will not result in any data loss whatsoever," but you lose access to all paid features when you drop to the free Personal plan.
  • To stop a trial, follow the same steps and click Cancel trial. Asana says that if you cancel on or before the trial expiration date your account will not be charged, and you keep paid features for the rest of the trial period.

If your Asana plan is manually invoiced

  1. 1

Asana states that billing owners, admins and super admins of manually invoiced subscriptions who want to adjust or cancel their plan for the upcoming renewal term should use Contact support from the Billing tab of the admin console, rather than the Cancel plan button.

  2. 2

Open the Admin console and navigate to the Billing tab.

  3. 3

Go to the Payment info section and click into Contact billing.

  4. 4

Use the support form to tell Asana's team that you want to cancel the plan for the upcoming renewal term.

  5. 5

Asana says the request creates a support case and its team follows up by email with next steps — keep that email as your record of the cancellation.

  • Asana's article lists "Contact support to cancel your plan" among the things you can do from the Billing tab, alongside changing your type of paid plan, viewing seat utilization, updating billing information, reassigning the billing owner role and downloading your latest invoice.

Common problems

Only official-source troubleshooting notes are included here.

There is no Cancel plan button on your Asana Billing tab.

Two documented explanations. First, cancelling is restricted to the billing owner, admin or super admin. Second, if your subscription is manually invoiced Asana routes you to Contact billing from the Billing tab's Payment info section rather than a self-serve button — that support form creates a case its team follows up on by email.

You cancelled Asana and now a project or task is locked.

That is documented behaviour on the free Personal plan: Asana says you will not have access to projects and tasks that use paid features, and may see a popup. Your data is not deleted — Asana states there is no data loss from downgrading — and you can still export those projects and tasks to a CSV file.

You cancelled your Asana trial but still have paid features.

Expected. Asana says cancelling a trial makes it expire on its renewal date so you are not charged, while you keep paid features for the duration of the trial period. If you genuinely need the trial removed straight away, Asana says to contact its Support team — but a trial with no payment information on file expires at no cost anyway.

What happens after you cancel?

Post-cancellation details like access, downgrade behavior, and refund caveats are shown only when the provider documents them.

  • Access continues until your next renewal date — Asana states cancellations take effect then, not immediately.
  • At renewal the account reverts to the free Asana Personal tier (or, for a cancelled trial, to the tier you were on before the trial started).
  • Asana states "Upgrading or downgrading will not result in any data loss whatsoever" — your data is not deleted.
  • You lose paid features such as rules, goals and portfolios, and you lose access to projects and tasks that use paid features.
  • Asana says you can still export those projects and tasks to a CSV file, so do that before the renewal date passes.

Refund notes

  • Asana's cancellation article documents no refund for a paid plan. Cancellation takes effect at your next renewal date and you keep paid features until the current billing period ends, so an annual plan cancelled mid-term simply runs out. For trials, Asana states that if you cancel on or before your trial expiration date your account will not be charged, and notes that trials without payment information expire at no cost.

FAQ

How do I cancel my Asana subscription?

Click your profile photo in the top-right corner, select Admin console, navigate to the Billing tab, and under Plan details select Cancel plan. Asana restricts this to the billing owner, admin or super admin. If your subscription is manually invoiced, use Contact support from the Billing tab instead — Asana handles those cancellations as support cases.

Who can cancel an Asana plan for an organization or workspace?

A billing owner, admin or super admin. Asana states those roles can cancel the subscription of a paid organization, division or workspace at any time through the Admin console. A regular member has no cancel control — if the Billing tab is missing from your admin console, you do not hold one of those roles.

What happens to my Asana projects if I downgrade to the free plan?

Asana states that upgrading or downgrading will not result in any data loss. However, on the free Personal plan you cannot use paid features such as rules, goals or portfolios, and you will not have access to projects and tasks that use paid features — you may see a popup instead. Asana says you can still export those projects and tasks to a CSV file.

Can I cancel an Asana trial without being charged?

Yes. Asana states that if you cancel on or before your trial expiration date, your account will not be charged. Follow the same admin console steps but click Cancel trial. You keep access to paid features for the rest of the trial period, then revert to the tier you were on before the trial. Trials with no payment information on file expire at no cost.

When does an Asana cancellation take effect?

At your next renewal date. Asana's help centre states "Paid plan cancellations take effect at your next renewal date, not immediately. You'll continue to have access to paid features until the end of your current billing period." There is no documented mid-cycle cutoff or refund.
