Step-by-step cancellation

These steps only appear when the flow was verified against an official provider or platform source.

If you subscribed through @PremiumBot (Telegram's own payment bot)

  1. 1

Open Telegram and go to the @PremiumBot chat (t.me/premiumbot).

  2. 2

Send the /stop command to the bot.

  3. 3

Telegram states that all future payments for Telegram Premium are then cancelled.

  4. 4

You keep every Premium feature until the end of the current billing period, after which they expire.

  • Telegram says @PremiumBot is accessible from the direct versions of its Android, Desktop and macOS apps, and that subscribing through the bot is cheaper because those payments are not subject to Apple's or Google's fees.
  • If you subscribed via @PremiumBot, Telegram states that deleting your account also terminates the recurring payments, because the bot cannot charge an account that no longer exists — but no unused portion of the billing period is refunded.

If you subscribed on iOS (billed by Apple)

  1. 1

    Open your iOS Settings.

  2. 2

Go to Apple ID Settings, then Subscriptions.

  3. 3

    Select Telegram Premium.

  4. 4

    Cancel the subscription there.

  5. 5

Premium features remain until the end of the current billing period, then expire.

  • Telegram states that Premium purchases are handled by third parties and that App Store subscriptions must be cancelled through your Apple account settings.
  • Telegram warns that if you delete your Telegram account or app without cancelling, Apple 'may continue to charge you'.

If you subscribed through Google Play (billed by Google)

  1. 1

    Open the Google Play app.

  2. 2

Tap your avatar in the top right.

  3. 3

Go to Payments & subscription, then Subscriptions.

  4. 4

Select Telegram Premium and cancel it.

  5. 5

Premium features remain until the end of the current billing period, then expire.

  • Telegram states that Google Play subscriptions must be cancelled through your Google account settings, and that Google may continue to charge you even if you delete your Telegram account or app.

Common problems

Only official-source troubleshooting notes are included here.

I cancelled but Telegram Premium is still active on my account.

That is what Telegram documents: after cancelling you keep every Premium feature until the end of the current billing period, and they expire only after that. The thing to verify is that no further payment is scheduled — check the Subscriptions list in Apple or Google Play, or that @PremiumBot acknowledged the /stop command.

I can't remember which provider I used to buy Telegram Premium.

Telegram says you subscribe via the App Store, Google Play (Telegram Settings > Telegram Premium) or @PremiumBot, and that a subscription bought anywhere applies to all supported apps — so the app you use is not proof of where you paid. Check your Apple Subscriptions list and Google Play's Subscriptions list; if Telegram Premium is in neither, the charge is coming from @PremiumBot and /stop is the path.

Someone gifted me Telegram Premium and I don't know what to cancel.

Telegram describes gifting as sending a prepaid subscription for 3, 6 or 12 months via the Gift Premium button on a user's profile. Its cancellation instructions cover subscriptions you bought yourself through @PremiumBot, the App Store or Google Play — so check those three places, and if the subscription appears in none of them there is nothing of yours being billed.

What happens after you cancel?

Post-cancellation details like access, downgrade behavior, and refund caveats are shown only when the provider documents them.

  • Telegram states that all future payments for Telegram Premium are cancelled.
  • You keep every Premium feature until the end of the current billing period, after which they expire.
  • Extra usernames you already created stay, but you cannot create new public usernames unless you own fewer than 10.
  • Your channels and folders stay as they are, but you cannot join more channels or add more chats to those folders; the first 10 folders keep working and any extras are locked.
  • GIFs past 200 are hidden, your bio is trimmed back to its first 70 visible characters, pinned chats beyond the first 5 are unpinned, files download at standard speed and your premium badge disappears.
  • Telegram states that all free functionality remains exactly as it was before you subscribed.

Refund notes

  • Telegram documents no refund for unused time. In its answer on deleting your account it states that it will not be possible to refund any 'unused' portion of your billing period. Because Premium is billed by @PremiumBot, Apple or Google rather than by Telegram directly, any refund request goes to that provider under its own policy.

FAQ

Does uninstalling Telegram cancel a Telegram Premium subscription?

No. Telegram states that uninstalling the app does not cancel the subscription — it remains available on any device — and that neither uninstalling nor leaving the app unopened pauses it. You will still be billed on the original renewal date. Cancel with the provider you bought it from: @PremiumBot, Apple, or Google Play.

How do I cancel Telegram Premium if I subscribed with @PremiumBot?

Open the bot on Telegram and send the /stop command. Telegram documents that single step as the cancellation path for bot purchases. All future payments are then cancelled, and your Premium features stay live until the end of the current billing period before expiring.

What features do I lose when Telegram Premium expires?

Telegram lists the rollback in detail: you keep existing extra usernames but cannot create new public ones unless you own fewer than 10; channels and folders stay but you cannot add more, and only the first 10 folders keep working; GIFs past 200 are hidden; your bio shows only its first 70 characters; pinned chats beyond the first 5 are unpinned; downloads return to standard speed; and the premium badge disappears.

Does deleting my Telegram account stop Telegram Premium payments?

Only for @PremiumBot subscriptions. Telegram says deleting the account terminates recurring bot payments because the bot cannot charge an account that no longer exists — but no unused portion of the billing period is refunded. If you subscribed through the App Store or Google Play, Telegram warns those platforms may keep charging you, so cancel in your Apple or Google account settings first.

Can I get a refund for unused Telegram Premium time?

Telegram documents none. Its FAQ states it will not be possible to refund any 'unused' portion of your billing period. Since payments are handled by @PremiumBot, Apple or Google rather than by Telegram itself, any refund request is decided by that provider under its own policy.
