How to cancel PureGym UK

PureGym UK monthly memberships cancel online: sign in to the Members' Area on puregym.com or the PureGym app and use the Online Cancellations service at least 4 working days before your payment date. Your membership runs until the day before the next payment was due. Fixed Term memberships must be ended by email instead.

Keeps access until
The day before your next payment was due. PureGym's membership terms state that your Monthly Membership "will remain in force until the day before your next payment is due, at which point it will automatically terminate", so you keep using the gym for the rest of the month you have already paid for.

Contract / fees
Two membership shapes, and they end in completely different ways. A flexible Monthly Membership has no minimum term — PureGym's terms say "[y]ou may terminate your Monthly Membership at any point by cancelling your direct debit within the Members' Area of the PureGym app or website using our Online Cancellations service up to 4 working days before your payment date." Read "working days" literally: four working days across a bank holiday weekend can be six or seven calendar days. A Fixed Term Membership of 6, 9 or 12 months has no online cancel route at all — PureGym's terms say you end it early "by contacting us on member.services@puregym.com" and that you "will be entitled to ask for a refund of 50% of the pro-rata'd proportion of the fees paid for the Fixed Term which relate to the period from the date on which you give us notice to the last day of the Fixed Term." PureGym separately states that you "may be entitled to freeze your membership either at a cost or for no charge depending on the type of membership you have", so pausing is worth asking about if you are only going away for a while.

Step-by-step cancellation

These steps only appear when the flow was verified against an official provider or platform source.

If you have a flexible Monthly Membership

  1. 1

Sign in to the PureGym Members' Area at members.puregym.com, or open the PureGym app and sign in there.

  2. 2

Open the Freeze or Cancel section (members.puregym.com/freeze-or-cancel) and choose to cancel rather than freeze.

  3. 3

Work through the Online Cancellations service and confirm the cancellation.

  4. 4

Do this at least 4 working days before your payment date. Those are working days, not calendar days, so a weekend or bank holiday pushes the real deadline further back than you would expect.

  5. 5

Save the confirmation, then check your bank statement on the next payment date to be sure the Direct Debit did not collect.

  • This is the route PureGym's own terms name: the Online Cancellations service inside the Members' Area of the app or website.
  • Membership fees are collected by Direct Debit. PureGym's terms say the second Direct Debit "will be collected one month after you joined, unless you joined prior to your gym opening in which case they will be collected one month after the gym opened", so your payment date may not be the date you signed up.

If you have a Fixed Term Membership of 6, 9 or 12 months

  1. 1

Do not look for a cancel button — PureGym's terms route Fixed Term cancellations through Member Services, not the Online Cancellations service.

  2. 2

Email member.services@puregym.com from the address on your membership.

  3. 3

Say clearly that you want to end your Fixed Term Membership early, and give the date of your notice.

  4. 4

Ask, in the same email, for the refund the terms describe: 50% of the pro-rata'd proportion of the fees paid for the part of the Fixed Term running from the date of your notice to the last day of the term.

  5. 5

Ask for written confirmation of your end date and of the refund amount before you close the thread.

  • PureGym does not publish the refund as automatic — its terms say you are "entitled to ask for" it, so you have to actually ask.

If you are still inside your first 14 days

  1. 1

Check the date you entered into the membership contract — the cooling-off period runs 14 days from then.

  2. 2

Contact PureGym at member.services@puregym.com stating that you are cancelling within the cooling-off period.

  3. 3

Expect a deduction if you have already trained. PureGym's terms say that if you asked for the membership to start before the cooling-off period ended, "then we will give you a refund of any monies paid less an amount to reflect your usage of the gym up to the date of cancellation".

  4. 4

Keep the written confirmation of the refund figure.

  • The cooling-off route is separate from the ordinary 4-working-day online cancellation, and it is the only one PureGym's UK terms attach a full refund to.

Common problems

Only official-source troubleshooting notes are included here.

The Members' Area will not let me cancel.

The usual reason is timing. PureGym's terms only allow the Online Cancellations service to be used up to 4 working days before your payment date, so if you are inside that window the option is gone until the payment has been taken. The other common reason is that you hold a Fixed Term rather than a Monthly Membership, which is cancelled by emailing member.services@puregym.com instead.

I cancelled and a payment still went out.

If you cancelled fewer than 4 working days before your payment date, that collection was already in motion. Your membership then runs to the day before the following payment date. If you believe you cancelled in good time, email member.services@puregym.com with the date and time of your cancellation and the confirmation you saved.

I only want to stop for a couple of months, not leave.

Ask about freezing instead. PureGym's terms say you "may be entitled to freeze your membership either at a cost or for no charge depending on the type of membership you have", and the same Freeze or Cancel area of the Members' Area is where the option appears. Be clear that a freeze keeps the membership alive.

What happens after you cancel?

Post-cancellation details like access, downgrade behavior, and refund caveats are shown only when the provider documents them.

  • Your Monthly Membership stays in force until the day before your next payment was due, then ends — you do not lose access the moment you press cancel.
  • The Direct Debit stops collecting from that point. Check the next statement to confirm it actually did.
  • A Fixed Term Membership ended early does not stop billing in the same way; it is settled through Member Services, along with the 50% pro-rata refund you have to ask for.
  • Reopen members.puregym.com and confirm the membership no longer shows as renewing before you consider the job done.

Refund notes

  • For an ordinary Monthly Membership, PureGym's UK terms document a notice mechanism rather than a refund: cancel at least 4 working days before your payment date and the next payment is not taken. Nothing in the terms promises money back on a payment already collected.
  • For a Fixed Term Membership of 6, 9 or 12 months, PureGym's terms say you can end it early by emailing member.services@puregym.com and are "entitled to ask for a refund of 50% of the pro-rata'd proportion of the fees paid for the Fixed Term which relate to the period from the date on which you give us notice to the last day of the Fixed Term". That is half of the unused portion, not all of it.
  • Inside the 14-day cooling-off period the terms provide a refund of monies paid, less an amount reflecting your gym usage up to the cancellation date if you asked for the membership to start straight away.

FAQ

How do I cancel my PureGym UK membership online?

Sign in to the Members' Area at members.puregym.com or in the PureGym app, open Freeze or Cancel, and work through the Online Cancellations service. PureGym's membership terms describe this as terminating your Monthly Membership "by cancelling your direct debit within the Members' Area of the PureGym app or website using our Online Cancellations service". It only works for flexible Monthly Memberships.

How much notice does PureGym UK need to cancel a monthly membership?

At least 4 working days before your payment date, according to PureGym's membership terms. Working days exclude weekends and bank holidays, so allow more calendar days than four — over a bank holiday weekend the real cut-off can be a week earlier than you expect.

Can I cancel a PureGym UK Fixed Term membership early?

Yes, but not online. PureGym's terms say a 6, 9 or 12-month Fixed Term Membership is cancelled early "by contacting us on member.services@puregym.com", and that you are "entitled to ask for a refund of 50% of the pro-rata'd proportion of the fees paid" for the part of the term from your notice date to the last day. You have to request that refund — it is not described as automatic.

When does my PureGym UK membership actually end after I cancel?

The day before your next payment was due. PureGym's terms state the Monthly Membership "will remain in force until the day before your next payment is due, at which point it will automatically terminate". You keep training for the rest of the month you paid for.

Is cancelling my PureGym UK direct debit at the bank enough?

It stops the payment, but it is not the route PureGym documents. Its terms point you to the Online Cancellations service in the Members' Area so the membership itself is ended, not just the collection. Cancel there first and use your bank only as a backstop — and remember a Direct Debit stopped at the bank is a different thing from a recurring card payment, which is stopped with your card issuer instead.
