How to cancel Empower

Empower is now Tilt, so cancel inside the Tilt app: tap More, then Billing, then Cancel subscription at the bottom of the page. In-app chat and help@tilt.com also work. Deleting the app does not stop billing, and no refund or proration policy is documented. Cash Advance and a Tilt Checking Account stay available without a subscription; any outstanding advance is repaid separately.

Not commonly documented
Keeps access until
Not documented. Tilt's help center does not state whether membership features run to the end of the month you already paid for; its Subscription Agreement says only that once the recurring debit stops, Tilt will no longer provide its Services. Tilt does separately document that Cash Advance and a Tilt Checking Account can be accessed without a subscription.
Notice period
3 days
Contract / fees
No minimum term, commitment or early-termination fee is documented. The Empower app was rebranded to Tilt, and empower.me now redirects to tilt.com. The governing Tilt Subscription Agreement (Tilt Finance, Inc.) covers only the recurring monthly fee, which is debited from the linked external bank account by ACH or charged to a linked debit card — not billed through Apple or Google. Cash advance repayment sits under a separate authorization, so ending the membership does not erase an advance you still owe. Legacy members who signed up in 2020 or earlier may be on grandfathered pricing — check the current Subscription Agreement and the Billing screen in the app for the amount that applies to you; some of the earliest members are documented as paying no monthly fee. Everyone else should check current pricing in the app before cancelling.

Step-by-step cancellation

These steps only appear when the flow was verified against an official provider or platform source.

Cancel in the Tilt app (formerly Empower)

  1. 1

Open the Tilt app and sign in — the Empower app was renamed Tilt, and empower.me now redirects to tilt.com.

  2. 2

Tap More, then tap Billing. Tilt documents the path as 'Cancel anytime in More > Billing.'

  3. 3

On the Billing page, note your next payment date before continuing — Tilt documents More > Billing as where payment dates are shown.

  4. 4

Scroll to the bottom of the Billing page and tap Cancel subscription to complete your cancellation.

  5. 5

Check for a confirmation. Tilt states plainly that deleting the app does not cancel your subscription; if you cannot complete the flow, Tilt also accepts cancellation by contacting help@tilt.com.

Ask Tilt support to cancel for you

  1. 1

Open in-app chat, which Tilt documents as the fastest way to reach its team.

  2. 2

Or email help@tilt.com and ask for the subscription to be cancelled; Tilt notes email response times may be longer.

  3. 3

If you prefer phone support, take the number and hours from Tilt's own contact page rather than a third-party listing, since they can change.

  4. 4

Ask for written confirmation that the recurring monthly charge has been stopped.

Stop the recurring bank debit

  1. 1

The Subscription Agreement says the monthly fee is debited from your designated bank account by ACH, or charged to the debit card you linked.

  2. 2

To stop those preauthorized debits, contact Tilt in-app or email help@tilt.com at least 3 business days before the scheduled debit date.

  3. 3

Understand the consequence Tilt spells out: if you stop the preauthorized debits, it will no longer provide its Services.

  4. 4

Note that revoking the authorization does not apply to debits taken before the revocation took effect.

Expect a retention offer

  • Cancellation is offered only inside the mobile app — there is no self-serve cancel page on the website.
  • A free trial for first-time members rolls into paid monthly billing unless you cancel before it ends; returning members are charged immediately with no trial.
  • Tilt's help center notes you can request a subscription fee waiver by contacting support, and that Cash Advance and a Tilt Checking Account can be accessed without a subscription — a documented alternative to cancelling outright.
  • Tilt warns explicitly that deleting the app does not cancel the subscription.

Common problems

Only official-source troubleshooting notes are included here.

What happens after you cancel?

Post-cancellation details like access, downgrade behavior, and refund caveats are shown only when the provider documents them.

  • Membership features tied to the subscription stop — the Subscription Agreement says 'If you stop these preauthorized electronic debits, we will no longer provide you our Services.' Note that Tilt separately documents that Cash Advance and a Tilt Checking Account remain accessible without a subscription.
  • Any outstanding cash advance is still withdrawn from the linked external bank account on the scheduled repayment date, because repayment runs under a separate authorization from the membership fee.
  • Tilt's help center says advances are not loans, that it will not send you to collections, and that it does not report your payments to the credit bureaus.
  • No refund or proration of the current month is documented.
  • Tilt documents that eligible members can reopen an account via More → Reopen, but returning members get no trial and are charged the monthly fee immediately.

Refund notes

  • No refund or proration policy is documented on Tilt's help center or in the Tilt Subscription Agreement. The agreement does state that revoking the debit authorization will not apply to debits already taken, so cancel ahead of your next billing date rather than after a charge lands. Any refund request would have to go through in-app chat or help@tilt.com.

FAQ

Is the Empower cash advance app the same thing as Tilt now?

Yes. The Empower app was rebranded to Tilt, empower.me now redirects to tilt.com, and the old support site points to support.tilt.com. The governing document is the Tilt Subscription Agreement from Tilt Finance, Inc. If a charge on your statement says Empower, cancel through the Tilt app.

Does deleting the Empower app cancel the membership?

No. Tilt states plainly that deleting the app does not cancel your subscription. The monthly fee keeps being debited from your linked account until you cancel in More > Billing, or until support stops it for you.

Do I have to repay my Empower cash advance before I can cancel?

Tilt's help pages do not list an outstanding advance as a blocker to cancelling, and the membership fee is documented separately from advance repayment. Tilt also documents that Cash Advance and a Tilt Checking Account can be accessed without a subscription. Advances are described as not loans, with no collections and no credit-bureau reporting — but the advance itself is still scheduled to be withdrawn on your repayment date.

Can I get a refund on my last Empower charge?

No refund or proration policy is documented on Tilt's help center or in its Subscription Agreement. The agreement notes that revoking the debit authorization does not undo debits already taken, so cancel before your next billing date. Any request would go through in-app chat or help@tilt.com.

I have an Empower retirement or investment account — do these steps apply?

No. Empower Personal Dashboard and Empower Retirement belong to a different company from the Empower cash advance app that became Tilt. These steps cover only the Tilt membership fee. For a workplace retirement or wealth account, contact that provider through its own site.
