How to cancel Birchbox

Birchbox bills you directly, so you cancel in your account's Manage Subscriptions section; Birchbox also documents emailing support. Cancelling only opts you out of the next renewal. Renewals typically take place the 1st-5th of the month, prepaid amounts are not refunded, all sales are final, and you keep the boxes remaining in your current term. Three-, six- and twelve-month commitment plans cannot be cancelled mid-term.

The end of your current paid term. Birchbox says cancelling only prevents the plan from renewing on its next renewal date, you still receive any boxes remaining under the current term, and prepaid members who opt out of renewal keep Members Market access for the rest of that term.
Contract / fees
Birchbox sells month-to-month plans (Birchbox Monthly, and Birchbox Signature which bills every other month) plus prepaid multi-month plans, and its Terms also describe "Monthly Subscriptions With Commitment" of three, six or twelve months. Birchbox states that 3, 6 and 12-month plans with a term commitment cannot be cancelled mid-term — you can only opt out of auto-renewal. Prepaid and commitment plans renew for another full term unless you opt out. Cancelling stops the next renewal but the subscription stays active through the end of the current term, and Birchbox does not refund the unused portion. Gift subscriptions are different: Birchbox's Terms state a Gift Subscription does not renew, cannot be cancelled, and its prepaid fee is non-refundable. Check current pricing and plan lengths on birchbox.com before committing.

Step-by-step cancellation

These steps only appear when the flow was verified against an official provider or platform source.

Cancel in your Birchbox account (documented primary route)

  1. 1

Go to birchbox.com and log in to your Birchbox account.

  2. 2

Open your account and find the Manage Subscriptions section (also referred to as Account Settings). Birchbox documents the section by name rather than by a fixed URL; navigate from your profile menu rather than typing a path.

  3. 3

Select your plan — Birchbox Monthly or Birchbox Signature — and follow the cancellation steps there to opt out of renewal.

  4. 4

Do this before your renewal date. Birchbox's billing article states renewals typically take place the 1st through the 5th of the month, and its Cancellation Policy states that if you have already been billed for this month's box, the cancellation takes effect with the next billing cycle.

  5. 5

Note the limit on term plans: Birchbox states that 3, 6 and 12-month plans with a term commitment cannot be cancelled mid-term — you can only opt out of auto-renewal.

  6. 6

Save the confirmation. Birchbox describes cancelling as preventing the plan from renewing on its next renewal date, not as ending the term you already paid for, and states that cancelling does not trigger a refund of prepaid amounts.

Ask Birchbox support to cancel for you (email)

  1. 1

Email info@birchbox.com from the address on your Birchbox account and ask to be opted out of renewal.

  2. 2

Birchbox's Terms describe this route as sending a message and having Birchbox cancel it for you.

  3. 3

Send it well before your renewal date. Birchbox says you can typically expect a reply from its Community Support team within 24 hours, and its billing article says renewals typically take place the 1st through the 5th of the month.

  4. 4

Keep the written reply confirming the cancellation, since it is your only record of the request.

Schedule a call with a Birchbox Discovery Specialist (legacy route)

  1. 1

Treat this as a legacy route. Birchbox's Terms still list a third cancellation option — going to support.birchbox.com and scheduling a call with a Discovery Specialist who can help you cancel.

  2. 2

Be aware the link is stale: support.birchbox.com no longer serves (its DNS still points at the old Zendesk instance but the connection fails), so the scheduling page in the Terms cannot currently be reached. Birchbox's live help centre is help.birchbox.com, linked from the site footer.

  3. 3

If you want to speak to someone, use the live chat in the current help centre at help.birchbox.com and ask the agent to opt you out of renewal on your plan, then request written confirmation by email.

  4. 4

If you would rather not speak to anyone, use the in-account Manage Subscriptions route or email info@birchbox.com — both are documented by Birchbox and neither depends on the retired support subdomain.

Skip a month instead of cancelling

  1. 1

Email info@birchbox.com, or use the live chat feature in the Birchbox support center, prior to the first of the month you want to skip.

  2. 2

Birchbox states that a pause request must be submitted prior to the monthly renewal date in order to prevent receiving a box for that month.

  3. 3

Monthly members are not charged for the skipped month, do not receive that month's box, and the membership resumes the following month.

  4. 4

Prepaid members have the membership extended by one month, so the same number of boxes originally purchased still arrive.

Expect a retention offer

  • Birchbox's Terms present scheduling a call with one of its Discovery Specialists as one of the three documented ways to cancel, alongside cancelling in your account and messaging support.
  • Pausing or skipping a month is not a self-serve control: Birchbox routes it through email to info@birchbox.com or live chat with its support team, and only if the request arrives before the first of the month.
  • Prepaid and commitment plans renew for another full term rather than dropping to month-to-month, so a missed renewal date locks in a multi-month charge that Birchbox does not refund.
  • Birchbox states that 3, 6 and 12-month term-commitment plans cannot be cancelled mid-term at all — opting out of auto-renewal is the only exit, and it takes effect only at the end of the term.
  • One of the three cancellation routes in Birchbox's own published Terms points to support.birchbox.com, a subdomain that no longer serves — the connection fails. The live help centre is help.birchbox.com, and the documented working contact address is info@birchbox.com.

Common problems

Only official-source troubleshooting notes are included here.

What happens after you cancel?

Post-cancellation details like access, downgrade behavior, and refund caveats are shown only when the provider documents them.

  • Cancelling opts you out of renewal — Birchbox describes it as preventing the plan from renewing on its next renewal date, not as ending the term you already paid for.
  • Birchbox states that a cancellation will not trigger a refund of any prepaid amounts, and that all sales are final and nonrefundable with no returns or exchanges.
  • If you have already been billed for the current month's box, Birchbox says the cancellation takes effect with the next billing cycle, so that box still ships.
  • Prepaid and commitment plans stay active until the end of the current term, and you still receive the boxes remaining under it. Birchbox states that 3, 6 and 12-month term-commitment plans cannot be cancelled mid-term.
  • Prepaid members who opt out of renewal keep Members Market access for the rest of the current plan term; the Market is otherwise open only to members with an active subscription linked to the account.
  • Gift subscriptions never renew. Birchbox's Terms state a Gift Subscription cannot be cancelled and its prepaid fee is non-refundable.

Refund notes

  • Birchbox states that a cancellation will not trigger a refund of any prepaid amounts, and that all sales are final and nonrefundable with no returns or exchanges. Prepaid multi-month purchases are separately described as nonrefundable, and Birchbox states that 3, 6 and 12-month term-commitment plans cannot be cancelled mid-term. The one documented exception is an immediate sign-up mistake: Birchbox asks you to email info@birchbox.com right away and says it will do its best to accommodate a refund, if possible, before your first box enters the fulfillment process. Once the order has entered fulfillment, Birchbox considers it final and nonrefundable. Members Market orders follow the same pattern: Birchbox says it cannot change or cancel an order once it has entered fulfillment.

FAQ

Where do I actually cancel Birchbox?

In your own Birchbox account. Birchbox's help center says you may cancel at any time, opting out of renewal, in the Manage Subscriptions section of your account — the Terms refer to the same place as Account Settings and tell you to log on to your account and follow the cancellation procedures there. Birchbox documents the section by name rather than by a fixed URL, so navigate from your profile menu after logging in. Its Terms list two alternatives: messaging support to have Birchbox cancel it for you, or scheduling a call with a Discovery Specialist. There is no current Birchbox subscription in the Apple App Store or Google Play, so app-store cancellation does not apply.

Does cancelling Birchbox refund what I've already paid?

No. Birchbox states that a cancellation will not trigger a refund of any prepaid amounts, and that all sales are final and nonrefundable with no returns or exchanges. If you have already been billed for the current month's box, Birchbox says the cancellation takes effect with the next billing cycle, so that box still ships. The one documented exception is a checkout mistake: Birchbox asks you to email info@birchbox.com right away and says it will do its best to accommodate a refund before your first box enters the fulfillment process.

Can I cancel a prepaid or commitment Birchbox plan in the middle of the term?

No. Birchbox states that 3, 6 and 12-month plans with a term commitment cannot be cancelled mid-term — you can only opt out of auto-renewal, which you may do at any time. Birchbox's Terms say that if you cancel the auto-renewal of a prepaid or commitment plan, your subscription remains active until the end of your then-current subscription term. Its help center adds that you will still receive any boxes remaining under that term before the next renewal date, and prepaid purchases are described as nonrefundable.

Is skipping a Birchbox month the same as cancelling, and can I do it myself?

Skipping is separate from cancelling, and Birchbox does not document it as a self-serve toggle. Birchbox asks you to email info@birchbox.com, or use the live chat feature in its support center, prior to the first of the month you want to skip, and notes that a pause request must be submitted before the monthly renewal date to prevent receiving that month's box. Monthly members are not charged for the skipped month and resume the following month; prepaid members have the membership extended by one month so the same number of boxes still arrive.

Do I lose Members Market access the moment I cancel Birchbox?

Not immediately if you are on a prepaid plan. Birchbox states that the Members Market is exclusively available to current members with an active subscription linked to their account, but adds that a prepaid member who has opted out of renewal still has access to the Members Market for the rest of the current plan term. Once the term ends and the membership lapses, the Market is no longer accessible.
