How to cancel PrivacyGuard

PrivacyGuard's terms give you the right to cancel at any time: click the cancel link inside your account at privacyguard.com, or call the membership line at 1-800-374-8273, email service@privacyguard.com, or write to the Membership Department. Billing is handled by Trilegiant, not an app store, so deleting the app changes nothing. Once you cancel, you owe nothing further.

Not documented. PrivacyGuard's terms say you owe nothing further once you cancel, but they do not state whether credit monitoring, reports, scores and Identity Fraud Resolution Support run to the end of the period you have already paid for. Ask the Membership Department to confirm your exact end date in writing.
Contract / fees
No fixed term, minimum commitment or early-termination fee is documented. Section 7 of the Terms states the membership renews at the end of each billing period at the then-current fee until you notify Trilegiant Corporation that you do not wish to renew, and that you will be told of any price increase and may cancel rather than continue at the new price. Section 6 states the fee is billed to the credit card, debit card or checking account you designated at enrollment. Enrollment runs through a short low-cost introductory period before recurring monthly billing begins — the provider's own app listing describes a 14-day introductory period; check current pricing. PrivacyGuard states it is not available to residents of Iowa, Rhode Island and Vermont.

Step-by-step cancellation

These steps only appear when the flow was verified against an official provider or platform source.

Cancel from your PrivacyGuard account (the cancel link)

  1. 1

Go to the PrivacyGuard member login at https://www.privacyguard.com/secure/Signin.aspx and enter your user name — the sign-in page asks for a user name, not a membership number. If you have forgotten it, use the "Forgot user name" link on that page; if you never set one up, the page's "Click here to get started" link walks you through creating one.

  2. 2

Once you are signed in, look for the cancel link in your account. Section 8 of the Terms & Conditions lists "clicking the cancel link in your account" as one of the four documented ways to end the agreement, but it does not name a menu or button path, so check your account/membership settings area.

  3. 3

Save or screenshot whatever confirmation the site shows, and note the date you cancelled.

  4. 4

If no cancel link appears in your account, do not assume the membership is closed — switch to the phone, email or written route, which Section 8 documents as equally valid.

  5. 5

Watch the credit card, debit card or checking account you authorised at enrollment; Section 6 names that as your "designated billing source", so that is where the fee should stop.

Cancel by phone on the membership line

  1. 1

Call 1-800-374-8273 toll-free — the number PrivacyGuard gives both in its FAQ answer on cancelling and as the Membership Phone on its contact page. Spanish-speaking representatives are noted on that page; no call-centre hours are published.

  2. 2

Have the name, address and email on the account ready, plus any membership or account number that appears on your billing statement, so the representative can find the membership.

  3. 3

Say plainly that you are cancelling the membership rather than asking about plan options, and repeat it if you are offered an alternative plan.

  4. 4

Before you hang up, ask for the cancellation date, whether anything further will be billed, and confirmation by email or post.

  5. 5

Check your next statement against the date you were given, and keep the representative's name and the call date in case the charge reappears.

Cancel by email or written notice to the Membership Department

  1. 1

Email service@privacyguard.com — the address given both in PrivacyGuard's FAQ answer on cancelling and in Section 8 of the Terms.

  2. 2

Include your full name, the email address and postal address on the account, and any membership or account number you have, with one clear sentence stating that you are cancelling the membership. Do not put your full Social Security number or full card number in an email.

  3. 3

To cancel in writing instead, Section 8 gives: PrivacyGuard, P.O. Box 6100, Westerville, OH 43086-6100, Attention: Membership Department. (The general correspondence address on the contact page is P.O. Box 4922, Stamford, CT 06907.)

  4. 4

Keep a copy of the email or letter and the date you sent it; for a mailed notice, use a service that gives you proof of delivery, since a posted cancellation only counts once it arrives.

  5. 5

PrivacyGuard does not document a response time, so if you have had no confirmation before your next billing date, follow up on 1-800-374-8273 and quote the date of your original request.

Expect a retention offer

  • Enrollment runs through a short low-cost introductory period that rolls into recurring monthly billing unless you cancel — the provider's app listing documents a 14-day introductory window (check current pricing)
  • PrivacyGuard's own FAQ answer on cancelling gives the phone number, the email address and a vague "or visit www.privacyguard.com" — it never points to the in-account cancel link, which appears only in Section 8 of the Terms & Conditions, so most members never find the self-serve route
  • Email and postal cancellations go to a Membership Department rather than producing an instant confirmation screen, so nothing confirms the request until someone replies
  • No call-centre hours are published on the contact page, so there is no documented window in which the phone route is assured to be answered

Common problems

Only official-source troubleshooting notes are included here.

What happens after you cancel?

Post-cancellation details like access, downgrade behavior, and refund caveats are shown only when the provider documents them.

  • Renewal stops. Section 7 says the membership renews at the end of each billing period until you notify Trilegiant you do not wish to renew, and Section 8 says that once you cancel you owe nothing further.
  • PrivacyGuard does not document whether monitoring continues to the end of the period you already paid for — get your end date confirmed in writing on whichever channel you used.
  • Member benefits end with the membership: triple-bureau credit reports and scores, daily credit monitoring alerts, the credit simulator, the Credit Information Hotline and Identity Fraud Resolution Support are all member-only.
  • The PrivacyGuard app is described as free to members, so it has nothing left to show once the membership ends — but removing it is not what stops the billing.
  • Watch the card, debit card or checking account you designated at enrollment; Section 6 identifies that as the billing source, so that is where the charge should stop.
  • Your credit files are unaffected — they are held by Experian, TransUnion and Equifax, and PrivacyGuard's own terms point out you can request a free report from each of them once every twelve months at annualcreditreport.com.

Refund notes

  • No self-serve refund is documented. Section 8 says that whether you cancel during the trial period or at any time after it, you owe nothing further — that stops future billing rather than promising money back on a cycle already charged, and you remain liable for any other fees due under the agreement. The only refund the terms describe is of the current term's membership fee when Trilegiant itself ends the agreement. If you want the latest charge looked at, raise it with the Membership Department on 1-800-374-8273 or service@privacyguard.com.

FAQ

Can I cancel PrivacyGuard online, or do I have to phone them?

Both routes are documented. Section 8 of PrivacyGuard's Terms & Conditions lists clicking the cancel link in your account alongside calling 1-800-374-8273, emailing service@privacyguard.com, and writing to the Membership Department. The site's own FAQ answer gives the phone number, the email address and a vague "or visit www.privacyguard.com" — it never points to the in-account cancel link, which is why most members never find it.

How do I sign in to my PrivacyGuard account to cancel?

The PrivacyGuard member login sits at privacyguard.com/secure/Signin.aspx and asks for a user name, not a membership number. If you have forgotten it, the page has a "Forgot user name" link; if you never created one, its "Click here to get started" link sets one up. Once inside, look for the cancel link Section 8 of the Terms describes — if you cannot find it, the phone, email and written routes are equally valid.

Does deleting the PrivacyGuard app stop the monthly charge?

No. The app is a member tool, and the membership is billed by Trilegiant Corporation to the credit card, debit card or checking account you designated at enrollment — not through the App Store or Google Play. Removing the app leaves the membership and its renewal untouched until you cancel through one of the documented channels.

Will PrivacyGuard refund the month I have already paid for?

No refund is documented when you are the one cancelling. Section 8 says that whether you cancel during the trial period or at any time after, you owe nothing further — that stops future billing rather than returning the fee already charged. The only refund the terms describe is of the current term's fee when Trilegiant ends the agreement itself.

What happens to my credit monitoring and alerts once I cancel PrivacyGuard?

They end with the membership — triple-bureau reports and scores, daily monitoring alerts, the Credit Information Hotline and Identity Fraud Resolution Support are all member-only. The terms do not say whether they run to the end of a period you have paid for, so ask for your exact end date. Your actual credit files at Experian, TransUnion and Equifax are unaffected.
