How to cancel Patreon

Cancel Patreon wherever you subscribed. If you joined through Apple on an iPhone or iPad, open Settings > [your name] > Subscriptions and cancel there; on Android, use the Google Play Store. If you subscribed on Patreon's website, sign in and go to Settings > Memberships > View details > Cancel membership. You keep access until the end of your current billing period.

No fixed-term contract, minimum commitment, or early termination fee is documented. Memberships can be cancelled at any time. Annual memberships work like the other prepaid models: you cancel, keep access until your next bill date, and simply are not charged again. Patreon documents no required notice period, but because renewals process in UTC it recommends cancelling at least 24 hours before your next billing date if you do not want the bill to renew. One timing trap is documented for monthly charge-upfront creators: cancelling on or after the 1st of the month still results in a charge for that month, and the membership then ends on the following 1st.

Cancel a paid membership on the Patreon website

    Log in to your account and switch to your member profile if applicable — click your profile picture in the bottom-left corner to check or switch profiles.

    Click the Settings link from the left-side menu.

Cancel a paid membership in the Patreon mobile app

    Open the app and switch to your member profile if applicable — tap your profile image in the top right corner and tap the Switch to button.

    Scroll through the creators listed at the top of the Home screen and tap the creator you want to cancel.

    Tap the three dots button in the upper right corner of the creator's Home screen, then select Your membership.

Cancel a free membership on the Patreon website

    Click Settings from the left-side menu. If you are also a creator, click Your account in the bottom-left corner and select Settings.

    On your Settings page, click the Memberships tab. If you are also a creator, go to the Account settings section and click Memberships.

Contact Patreon support if you cannot cancel yourself

    If you are unable to cancel your membership or see unexpected charges, submit a request to Patreon's support team via patreon.com/zendesk-sso-start.

What happens after you cancel?

Post-cancellation details like access, downgrade behavior, and refund caveats are shown only when the provider documents them.

  • Your membership will not renew for the next billing period, and the creator is removed from your Active memberships page.
  • If the creator uses subscription billing, monthly charge-upfront, or an annual membership, you keep your existing access until your next billing date, then lose access without being charged again.
  • If the creator uses monthly non-charge-upfront or per-creation billing, you lose membership access as soon as you cancel.
  • With per-creation billing, Patreon processes any pending bills on your account when you cancel, so you may see a final charge for paid posts the creator published before you cancelled. Patreon advises checking Billing History for pending bills before you cancel.
  • You can choose to remain connected to the creator as a free member instead of leaving entirely.
  • Creators are not directly notified when you cancel, though they may notice the change in their membership count.
  • You can re-subscribe to any creator at any time. If you rejoin before your original access ends on subscription billing, you keep your original bill date; if you rejoin after access ends, you are treated as a new patron.
  • Patreon advises confirming the cancellation in your Memberships tab afterward to avoid unexpected charges.

Refund notes

  • Patreon states it "doesn't typically offer refunds since payments go directly to creators," and cancelling does not refund or prorate the current period. Its separate refund policy documents that for purchases made on the web you can open Billing History, select the payment you want refunded, and request a refund within 60 days of the original payment; per-creation charges cannot be refunded through Billing History and require contacting Patreon Product Support. Patreon decides refund claims at its sole discretion and says a refund can take up to 28 days to issue. Does canceling Patreon end your access immediately?

It depends on the creator's billing model. Patreon documents that if you cancel a monthly non-charge-upfront or per-creation membership you lose access as soon as you cancel. If you cancel a subscription-billing, charge-upfront, or annual membership, you keep your access until your next billing date, and on that date you are not charged and access ends.

Can you pause a Patreon membership instead of canceling it?

No. Patreon's help center states it does not currently offer a pause feature for members, and that to temporarily stop payments you need to cancel and re-subscribe later. You can, however, choose to stay connected to the creator as a free member during the cancellation flow.

Will Patreon refund the rest of your billing period when you cancel?

No. Cancelling is not prorated and does not trigger a refund; you simply keep whatever access your billing model gives you. Patreon says it does not typically offer refunds because payments go directly to creators. Its refund policy does let you request a refund on a web purchase from your Billing History within 60 days of the payment, but Patreon decides those claims at its discretion. Refunds on Apple in-app purchases must be requested from Apple at reportaproblem.apple.com.

Why is Patreon still charging you after you canceled a membership?

Patreon lists a few documented causes. With per-creation billing you may get a final charge for paid posts the creator published before you cancelled, since pending bills are processed at cancellation. You may also have a second Patreon account under a different email — Patreon suggests resetting your password with every possible email address to find it. If charges continue, Patreon directs you to contact support.

Does the creator get notified when you cancel your Patreon membership?
