How to cancel Monarch Money

Monarch is straightforward to cancel. If you subscribed on Monarch's website, sign in on desktop, open Billing settings at app.monarch.com/settings/billing, then Manage subscription, then Cancel Subscription — it's web-only, not in the mobile app. If you subscribed through the App Store or Google Play, cancel in that store instead. Access continues until your paid period ends.

Can you cancel online?
yes
Where to start
Monarch on the web, at Settings then Billing (app.monarch.com/settings/billing). If you signed up inside the iPhone or Android app, start in your Apple App Store or Google Play subscriptions list instead.
Apple or Google billed?
Possible
Keeps access until
The end of the period you have already paid for — Monarch's help center states that after you cancel you still have access for the time remaining on your subscription. The one documented exception is a refund: Monarch says that when a refund is issued under its money-back guarantee, the subscription is cancelled and Premium access ends immediately. Either way, Monarch documents that connected institution links are disconnected 30 days after a subscription ends.
Notice period
3 days
Contract / fees
No lock-in term and no early-termination fee. Plans are monthly or annual, and Monarch's help center says you can switch between them at any time, with the unused remainder of the old plan applied as a credit toward the new one; downgrading from Plus to Core cancels Plus and bills the Core rate at the next renewal date. Two documented deadlines are worth knowing. Monarch's FAQ says a trial must be cancelled at least 24 hours before it ends to avoid being billed. Separately, Monarch's Terms of Use state that to stop an annual auto-renewal you must notify Monarch within 3 days of receiving its auto-renewal notice. The self-serve cancel button in Billing settings is presented as available at any time and is not described as gated on that 3-day window, but the clause is in the posted terms, so cancelling well ahead of a renewal date avoids the ambiguity entirely. Check current pricing on Monarch's site before switching plans.

Step-by-step cancellation

These steps only appear when the flow was verified against an official provider or platform source.

Cancel a subscription billed directly by Monarch (web)

  1. 1

Sign in to Monarch in a web browser. Monarch's help center marks this path web only, so it cannot be completed inside the iOS or Android app.

  2. 2

Open the Billing Settings page at app.monarch.com/settings/billing (Monarch's help article still links the older app.monarchmoney.com address, which redirects here).

  3. 3

    Click "Manage subscription".

  4. 4

    Click "Cancel Subscription".

  5. 5

Monarch documents that after cancelling you keep access for the time remaining on your subscription.

Cancel if you subscribed through the Apple App Store

  1. 1

Open the Settings app on your iPhone or iPad.

  2. 2

Tap your name at the top.

  3. 3

    Tap Subscriptions.

  4. 4

Select Monarch from the list shown.

  5. 5

    Tap Cancel Subscription.

  6. 6

If Monarch is not listed, you may be part of a family plan and will need the family organizer to cancel it.

  7. 7

Monarch's help center states its staff cannot access App Store subscription details, so cancellations and refunds for App Store billing are handled by Apple at support.apple.com/billing. Apple's own guide to managing subscriptions is at support.apple.com/118428.

Cancel if you subscribed through Google Play

  1. 1

Open the Google Play Store app.

  2. 2

Tap your profile picture in the top right.

  3. 3

Tap "Payments & subscriptions", then "Subscriptions".

  4. 4

Select Monarch from the list of subscriptions.

  5. 5

Monarch's article stops here and hands off to Google's own cancellation guide at support.google.com/googleplay/answer/7018481 — follow Google's prompts there to finish cancelling.

  6. 6

If Monarch does not appear in the list, you may be part of a family plan and will need to ask your family manager to cancel the subscription.

Request a refund under Monarch's money-back guarantee (also ends the subscription)

  1. 1

Confirm you bought the subscription directly from Monarch. The help center states subscriptions made via the Apple App Store are not eligible and can only be refunded by Apple — Monarch says outright "We cannot offer refunds for Apple App Store subscriptions."

  2. 2

Do not delete your Monarch account before requesting a refund — the help center asks you to keep it open so the request can be processed efficiently.

  3. 3

Sign in and open Monarch's refund request page at app.monarch.com/dashboard/refund-request (Monarch's help center still links the older app.monarchmoney.com address, which 301-redirects here).

  4. 4

Submit the request. Monarch states it will refund the remaining time on your subscription, "no questions asked," at any point after purchase.

  5. 5

Separately, if your reason for wanting out is that something in your account is not working correctly, Monarch invites you to message support first at app.monarch.com/dashboard/contact-support — it will try to fix the issue and refund you if it cannot.

  6. 6

Note the trade-off Monarch documents: when a refund is issued the subscription is cancelled and Premium access ends immediately, rather than continuing to the end of the paid period as it would with a plain cancellation. You can still log in afterwards to download historical data, restart, or delete your account. Institution connections are disconnected 30 days after a subscription ends.

Common problems

Only official-source troubleshooting notes are included here.

What happens after you cancel?

Post-cancellation details like access, downgrade behavior, and refund caveats are shown only when the provider documents them.

  • Access continues for the remainder of the subscription period you have already paid for.
  • Cancelling does not delete your Monarch account or its data — Monarch states that explicitly. Deletion is a separate step under Settings, then Security, then Delete Account, and it is irreversible.
  • If you want the account deleted too, Monarch requires the subscription to be cancelled first, and recommends downloading your transaction and account history before deleting. If you are also requesting a refund, keep the account open until that request is processed.
  • Monarch documents that connected institution links are disconnected 30 days after a subscription ends.
  • If Apple or Google is the biller, the cancellation has to happen in that store. Monarch's help center warns that deleting the app from your phone or tablet does not cancel the subscription.
  • If you request a refund under the money-back guarantee instead of simply cancelling, Monarch says the subscription is cancelled and Premium access ends immediately.

Refund notes

  • Monarch publishes a money-back guarantee with a self-serve refund request page for subscriptions purchased directly from Monarch. Monarch says it will refund the remaining time on your subscription, "no questions asked," at any point after purchase, with no stated day limit. A refund ends Premium access immediately rather than at the end of the billing period, though you can still sign in afterwards to download historical data, restart, or delete the account. Subscriptions billed through the Apple App Store are explicitly excluded — Monarch says it cannot refund those and that only Apple can. Monarch's Terms of Use separately describe subscription fees as generally non-refundable unless otherwise agreed, so the published help-center guarantee is the more generous of the two documents. Check the current guarantee page before relying on it.

FAQ

Why is there no cancel button in the Monarch Money mobile app?

Monarch's help center documents the direct-billing cancel path as web only: Billing settings, then Manage subscription, then Cancel Subscription. There is no equivalent control inside the iOS or Android app. The exception is if you subscribed through the App Store or Google Play — in that case you cancel from your Apple or Google subscriptions list rather than from Monarch at all.

Does deleting my Monarch Money account also cancel the subscription?

No, and the order matters. Monarch's help center says that if you are in an active paid subscription you must cancel it first, and only then delete the account from Settings, then Security, then Delete Account. It also states plainly that cancelling a subscription does not delete the account, and that deleting the app from your phone or tablet will not cancel an app-store subscription. Deletion is irreversible, so Monarch recommends downloading your transaction and account history first — and if you are asking for a refund, Monarch asks you to keep the account open until the request is processed.

Can I get a refund from Monarch Money after I have already paid?

Monarch publishes a money-back guarantee with a self-serve refund request page for subscriptions bought directly from Monarch. Monarch says it will refund the remaining time on your subscription, "no questions asked," at any point after purchase. Two catches: a refund cancels the subscription and ends Premium access immediately rather than at the end of the period, and Apple App Store subscriptions are excluded — Monarch says outright that it cannot refund those and only Apple can. Monarch's Terms of Use, separately, describe subscription fees as generally non-refundable.

Monarch Money is not showing up in my subscriptions list — what now?

Monarch's help center flags this for both stores: if Monarch does not appear in your Apple App Store or Google Play subscriptions, you are likely on a family plan, and the family organizer or family manager has to cancel it. If you instead subscribed on Monarch's own website, it will never appear in either store list — cancel from Monarch's Billing settings page on the web at app.monarch.com/settings/billing.

How far ahead of renewal do I need to cancel Monarch Money?

The self-serve cancel control is presented as available at any time, and Monarch says you keep access for the time remaining on your subscription after you cancel. Two documented deadlines exist: the FAQ says a trial must be cancelled at least 24 hours before it ends to avoid a charge, and the Terms of Use say cancelling an annual auto-renewal requires notifying Monarch within 3 days of receiving its renewal notice. Cancelling well ahead of the renewal date sidesteps both.
