How to cancel Credit Karma

Credit Karma's base membership carries no recurring fee — its terms describe credit scores, reports and monitoring as provided at no cost. Paid Credit Karma Plus is cancelled self-service inside the Credit Karma app and runs to the end of the billing period; refunds require contacting Member Support. Close any Money Save or Spend accounts before cancelling the membership.

Keeps access until
For a paid Credit Karma Plus subscription, the end of the billing period you already paid for — the terms state cancellation takes effect the day after the last day of the Subscription Period in which you cancel, and your free Credit Karma account, scores and monitoring continue. A refund granted by Member Support instead ends the subscription immediately. Cancelling the membership itself ends access to scores, reports and monitoring, and previous scores and report history are lost permanently.
Contract / fees
No term commitment, minimum contract or early-termination fee is documented. Credit Karma Plus is described in its terms as a recurring subscription (for example monthly or annual) that renews until you cancel, and refunds must be requested from Member Support rather than taken self-service. Credit Karma's Money Spend help article states there are no maintenance fees and no minimum balance requirement, but notes the account is at risk of closure after two years of inactivity. Credit Karma's checking page documents a per-withdrawal fee for out-of-network ATM cash withdrawals (see Credit Karma's checking page for the current amount), waived if you receive qualifying monthly direct deposits above Credit Karma's stated threshold (see the current checking page for the amount). Credit Builder is described on Credit Karma's checking page as requiring you to open a line of credit and a Credit Builder savings account; the page documents no fee schedule for it. Money Save and Spend accounts must be closed before the membership itself is cancelled.

Step-by-step cancellation

These steps only appear when the flow was verified against an official provider or platform source.

Cancel a paid Credit Karma Plus subscription

  1. 1

Open the Credit Karma app and tap the three lines in the top right corner of the screen.

  2. 2

Select "CK Plus Subscription" from the menu.

  3. 3

Scroll to the bottom of the page and tap "Cancel Subscription".

  4. 4

On the confirmation screen, tap "Done" to finalise the cancellation.

  5. 5

Expect access to continue to the end of the current billing cycle — the terms say cancellation takes effect the day after the last day of the Subscription Period in which you cancel. Your free Credit Karma account, credit scores and monitoring stay active.

  6. 6

If you want money back rather than run-out access, you must contact Member Support to request it (terms §5.3). A full refund is offered within 7 days of your first payment, or a refund of the most recent payment if you are dissatisfied — either one cancels the subscription immediately instead of at period end.

Deactivate the Credit Karma membership itself

  1. 1

Confirm what you are stopping: the Terms of Service state Credit Karma provides credit scores, reports and monitoring "at no cost to you", so the base membership normally carries no recurring charge. Paid Credit Karma Plus is a separate subscription — cancel that first if you have one.

  2. 2

If you hold Credit Karma Money Save and/or Spend accounts, close them BEFORE cancelling the membership — the cancellation article directs you to the Save and Spend closure articles first.

  3. 3

Download, save or print anything you want to keep. The article warns you will lose access to previous credit scores and TransUnion/Equifax report history, and cannot regain it if you rejoin later.

  4. 4

Open "How do I cancel my membership?" at support.creditkarma.com and use the "Cancel my Credit Karma membership" link in the article, which takes you to the cancellation section inside Credit Karma.

  5. 5

The Terms of Service state you may deactivate your membership at any time without penalty or obligation, so there is no notice window to plan around.

Close a Credit Karma Money Spend or Save account

  1. 1

Close these accounts BEFORE cancelling your Credit Karma membership — the membership cancellation article explicitly directs you to do so. They are not independent of the membership.

  2. 2

SPEND — prepare first: withdraw all funds via ACH electronic transfer, instant transfer, or a physical check sent by mail; stop any scheduled transfers into or out of the account; update your direct deposit instructions with your employer or payroll provider (post-closure deposits will fail); and stop any automated payments linked to the account.

  3. 3

SPEND — closing is not self-service: once prep is done you must contact Credit Karma Member Support to complete the closure request. There is no in-product close button for the Spend account.

  4. 4

SAVE — clear blockers first: any pending transfers or open disputes must be resolved before the account can be closed.

  5. 5

SAVE — self-service closure: go to your Credit Karma Money Save account, find the Account Settings page at the bottom of the savings hub, select "Close Savings Account", select "Continue", choose a reason for closing (pick "Something Else" if you would rather not say), then select "Confirm". You will get a confirmation screen and an email.

  6. 6

Do not manually empty a Save account first — closing it automatically transfers any remaining funds and earned interest to your linked external account and cancels scheduled automated deposits. Statements and tax forms remain available after closure.

  7. 7

If self-service closure of the Save account fails, contact support for the alternative route (balance mailed as a check); this requires additional identity verification including name, date of birth, account email, verified phone, last four of your SSN and verified mailing address.

  8. 8

On fees: Credit Karma's Money Spend help article states there are no maintenance fees and no minimum balance requirement, but notes that after two years of inactivity the account is at risk of closure.

Common problems

Only official-source troubleshooting notes are included here.

What happens after you cancel?

Post-cancellation details like access, downgrade behavior, and refund caveats are shown only when the provider documents them.

  • A cancelled Credit Karma Plus subscription runs to the end of the billing period you already paid for — the terms say cancellation takes effect the day after the last day of that Subscription Period.
  • Plus stops renewing, but your free Credit Karma account, credit scores and monitoring stay active unless you also cancel the membership.
  • Cancelling the Credit Karma membership is permanent for your history: the cancellation article warns you lose access to previous credit scores and TransUnion/Equifax report history and cannot get it back if you rejoin later.
  • Money Save and Spend accounts have to be closed before the membership is cancelled. Closing a Save account automatically transfers any remaining funds and earned interest to your linked external account and cancels scheduled automated deposits; statements and tax forms stay available afterwards.
  • A Money Spend account cannot be closed by you in-product — after withdrawing funds and stopping scheduled transfers, direct deposits and automated payments, you have to contact Member Support to complete the closure.
  • Credit Builder runs through Credit Karma Money, so anything you have going there is affected by closing those accounts rather than by cancelling a subscription.

Refund notes

  • Credit Karma Plus refunds are not self-service: the terms (§5.3) require you to contact Member Support to request one. A full refund is offered if requested within 7 days of your first payment, and a refund of the most recent payment if you are dissatisfied while the subscription is active — both end the subscription immediately rather than at period end. Outside those cases the terms describe subscription fees as non-refundable, with no prorated refunds except where required by law. Check the current terms, since refund windows change.

FAQ

Do I have to close my Credit Karma Money accounts before cancelling my membership?

Yes. Credit Karma's membership cancellation article directs you to close any Money Save and Spend accounts first and links to a closure article for each. The Save account you can close yourself from Account Settings at the bottom of the savings hub; the Spend account you cannot — you have to contact Credit Karma Member Support to complete that one.

Is there anything to cancel if I only use Credit Karma for credit scores and monitoring?

There is no subscription charge to stop. Credit Karma's Terms of Service describe credit reports, scores, credit monitoring and ID monitoring as provided at no cost, and say you may deactivate your membership at any time without penalty or obligation. Note that the cancellation article warns you permanently lose access to previous credit scores and TransUnion/Equifax report history.

How do I cancel a paid Credit Karma Plus subscription?

In the Credit Karma app: tap the three lines in the top right, select "CK Plus Subscription", scroll to the bottom and tap "Cancel Subscription", then tap "Done" on the confirmation screen. No phone call, live agent or written notice is required, and your free Credit Karma account, scores and monitoring stay active afterwards.

Will Credit Karma refund a Credit Karma Plus payment?

Not automatically — the Plus terms (§5.3) put refunds behind Member Support, so you have to ask for one. A full refund is offered within 7 days of your first payment, and a refund of the most recent payment if you are dissatisfied while the subscription is active; either one ends the subscription immediately rather than at period end. Outside those cases the terms describe fees as non-refundable and not prorated.

Does deleting the Intuit Credit Karma app cancel a Credit Karma Plus subscription?

No. Removing the app from your phone does not touch billing, and the terms describe the subscription as recurring until cancelled. Cancel it first from the "CK Plus Subscription" screen inside the app, confirm you see the cancellation confirmation, and only then delete the app if you want to.
