Common problems

Only official-source troubleshooting notes are included here.

What happens after you cancel?

Post-cancellation details like access, downgrade behavior, and refund caveats are shown only when the provider documents them.

  • Access to the included Coursera Plus content continues until the end of the current payment period.
  • After the payment period ends, course access switches to preview mode.
  • All progress in your courses is saved, including any grades received on assessments.
  • Certificates earned during the subscription remain available in your Certificates tab.
  • Canceling stops all future payments but does not refund past payments.
  • Coursera documents that Coursera Plus subscriptions will not auto-cancel on completion, unlike Specialization and Professional Certificate subscriptions.

Refund notes

  • Coursera documents that canceling "won't refund past payments, but will stop all future payments." Annual Coursera Plus subscriptions come with a 14-day money-back guarantee: you are eligible for a refund if you cancel within 14 days of your original payment, requested self-serve from Purchases > Purchase History > Request refund; after 14 days you are no longer eligible. Completing the refund request automatically cancels the Coursera Plus membership. Coursera states it does not offer partial refunds, and that once a refund is issued it may take 7-10 business days to be processed. Coursera also notes that if you completed a course within the 14-day window, you will no longer be able to access that Course Certificate after requesting the annual refund.

FAQ

Does canceling Coursera Plus end my access immediately?

No. Coursera documents that when you cancel you lose access to the included content only after your current payment period ends. Once that period ends, your course access switches to preview mode.

Can I get a refund on an annual Coursera Plus subscription?

Annual Coursera Plus subscriptions come with a 14-day money-back guarantee. You are eligible for a refund if you cancel within 14 days of your original payment; after 14 days you are no longer eligible. You request it yourself from your Purchases page under the Purchase History tab by clicking the Request refund link, then confirming with "Yes, cancel and get a refund." Coursera notes refunds can take 7-10 business days to process and that it does not offer partial refunds.

Can I pause my Coursera Plus subscription instead of canceling it?

No. Coursera's help center states that it isn't currently possible to pause a subscription. It notes that if you cancel instead, all of your course progress is saved, including any grades you've received, and you can restart later by upgrading to the paid version of your course.

What happens to my certificates and course progress if I cancel Coursera Plus?

Any certificates you earned during the subscription stay in your Certificates tab, and all course progress is saved including assessment grades. One documented exception: if you request the 14-day refund on an annual Coursera Plus subscription and completed a course within that window, you will no longer be able to access that Course Certificate unless you pay the course fee.

Why is there no Cancel subscription button for my Coursera Plus subscription on the Coursera website?

Coursera documents that if you started the subscription in the Coursera mobile app, it is managed through Apple or Google Play as an in-app subscription, so the option to cancel will not appear on Coursera.org. Subscriptions started in a web browser can be canceled either on the website or in the Coursera mobile app.
