How to cancel Brightside Health

Brightside Health cancels from inside the member portal: open Settings, choose Manage Plan, then Cancel My Medication Plan or Cancel My Therapy Plan. Psychiatry and therapy are separate plans, so cancel each one. Cancellation takes effect at the end of the current billing period, and your provider can no longer authorize medication refills afterward.

Menus and labels can change. If the steps below don’t match what you see, use the official help link on this page.

Contract / fees
Month-to-month with no documented minimum term or early-termination fee — the Terms of Use say the subscription "continues until canceled by you or until we terminate your access." Psychiatry (medication) and therapy are billed as separate ongoing plans and must be cancelled separately. Telehealth complication: Brightside's FAQ states that if you cancel your plan, "your provider will not be able to authorize refills of your medication because they will be unable to track your treatment progress," so members on an active prescription are advised to message their provider before cancelling. Members using insurance may also be charged a no-show fee of up to $200 for a missed appointment, billed separately from the subscription. Check current pricing on Brightside's own site before assuming what a remaining cycle costs.

Step-by-step cancellation

These steps only appear when the flow was verified against an official provider or platform source.

Cancel a Brightside medication (psychiatry) plan in the member portal

  1. 1

Before you cancel, message your provider about any active prescription — Brightside says a cancelled plan means your provider cannot authorize refills.

  2. 2

Log in to your Brightside Portal at app.brightside.com.

  3. 3

Select "Settings" from the menu bar.

  4. 4

    Select "Manage Plan."

  5. 5

Choose "Cancel My Medication Plan" and complete any confirmation prompts.

  6. 6

Note the date your access ends — cancellation takes effect at the end of the current subscription period.

Cancel a Brightside therapy plan in the member portal

  1. 1

Brightside recommends having a "termination" chat with your therapist first to let them know you are ending the plan.

  2. 2

Log in to your Brightside Portal at app.brightside.com.

  3. 3

Select "Settings" from the menu bar.

  4. 4

    Select "Manage Plan."

  5. 5

Choose "Cancel My Therapy Plan" and confirm.

  6. 6

If you also have a medication plan, repeat the process and cancel that plan separately.

Cancel or confirm cancellation through Brightside Member Services

  1. 1

Log in to your account and use the "Help" button to message Member Services, or use the chat link on Brightside's contact page.

  2. 2

Alternatively, email support@brightside.com from the address on your account.

  3. 3

State clearly that you want to cancel, and name which plan (medication, therapy, or both).

  4. 4

Ask for written confirmation and the exact date your subscription and access end.

  5. 5

Raise any refund question in the same message — Brightside routes refund requests through Member Services.

Expect a retention offer

  • Brightside's FAQ urges members to finish a maintenance phase before stopping, warning that skipping it "more than doubles the likelihood that your depression will come back in the next 6 months."
  • Members are told to message their provider before cancelling a medication plan, since cancellation ends the provider's ability to authorize refills.
  • Therapy cancellation is framed around first holding a "termination" chat with your therapist.
  • Psychiatry and therapy are separate plans, so cancelling one leaves the other billing.

Common problems

Only official-source troubleshooting notes are included here.

What happens after you cancel?

Post-cancellation details like access, downgrade behavior, and refund caveats are shown only when the provider documents them.

  • Cancellation is effective at the end of your current subscription period, so access continues until that date rather than ending the moment you click cancel.
  • Your provider can no longer authorize medication refills once the medication plan is cancelled — arrange refills or a transfer of care beforehand.
  • Cancelling the medication plan does not end a therapy plan, and vice versa; each has its own cancel button under Manage Plan.
  • Subscription fees already paid are not refunded at the time of cancellation.
  • You keep the ability to contact Member Services through the Help section for billing questions after cancelling.

Refund notes

  • Brightside's Terms of Use allow a full refund if you cancel at least 24 hours before your first scheduled consultation. After that consultation the purchase is final: "EXCEPT AS SET FORTH ABOVE WITH RESPECT TO YOUR INITIAL SUBSCRIPTION PURCHASE, YOU WILL NOT RECEIVE A REFUND OF ANY PORTION OF THE SUBSCRIPTION FEE PAID FOR AT THE TIME OF CANCELLATION." The FAQ adds that therapy subscription payments are non-refundable, and that refunds are not issued after the time of your initial scheduled psychiatric consultation. Refund requests go through Member Services via the Help section of your account.

FAQ

Where is the cancel button in the Brightside Health member portal?

Log in to your Brightside Portal, select "Settings" from the menu bar, then "Manage Plan." From there you will see "Cancel My Medication Plan" or "Cancel My Therapy Plan," depending on which plans you hold.

Do I have to cancel Brightside Health therapy and psychiatry separately?

Yes. Brightside's FAQ gives separate instructions and separate buttons for the medication plan and the therapy plan. Cancelling one does not stop billing on the other, so check Manage Plan for both if you are enrolled in combined care.

Will Brightside Health still refill my prescription after I cancel?

No. Brightside states that if you cancel your plan, your provider will not be able to authorize refills because they can no longer track your treatment progress. Message your provider before cancelling to arrange refills or a transfer of care.

Can I get a refund from Brightside Health if I cancel before my first appointment?

Brightside's Terms of Use allow a full refund if you cancel at least 24 hours before your first scheduled consultation. After that consultation the purchase is final. Therapy subscription payments are described as non-refundable.

Does cancelling Brightside Health cut off my access right away?

No. The Terms of Use say cancellations are effective at the end of the then-current subscription period, so you keep access through the cycle you have already paid for rather than losing it immediately.
