After DoNotPay's 2025 FTC settlement over its "robot lawyer" claims, many people want a more dependable way to cancel subscriptions. If you want automatic detection, Rocket Money (formerly Truebill) links bank/card accounts and offers concierge cancellation. If you'd rather not link financial accounts, Gravity and Bobby track renewals privately on iPhone — Gravity adds verified, step-by-step cancellation guidance. PocketGuard, Hiatus and Copilot Money are also worth a look.
DoNotPay markets itself as an AI "robot lawyer" that can cancel subscriptions and handle small consumer disputes for you. It still operates in 2026, but in January 2025 the U.S. Federal Trade Commission finalized an order against the company over deceptive claims that its service performed like a real lawyer, requiring $193,000 in monetary relief and notices to past subscribers. Reports of confusing bi-monthly billing (around $36 every two months) and charges continuing after users believed they had cancelled have pushed many people to look for a cleaner alternative.
The alternatives below fall into two camps. Bank-linked apps — Rocket Money, PocketGuard, Hiatus, Copilot Money and OneMain's Trim/MyMoney — link bank/card accounts to automatically detect recurring charges, and some will contact providers to cancel on your behalf; the trade-off is that you grant access to your financial accounts. Manual, privacy-first trackers — Gravity and Bobby — never touch financial accounts: you add the services you pay for and the app tracks renewals for you. Two names you may still see in older lists no longer apply: Truebill is now Rocket Money, and Intuit's Mint shut down on March 23, 2024, migrating users to Credit Karma.
A private iPhone subscription manager. You add the services you pay for, and it tracks renewal dates and trial deadlines, then gives official-source-verified, step-by-step guidance to cancel any service — you cancel, it guides. It never links financial accounts.
